Hello there, I’m Dred Scott. an African American slave.! I’m tired of it… But no need to be sad, I have a Great story to tell you!
I wanted my freedom, so i went to court, and Really fought for it. I lost. My heart fell, and I died inside.
The first trial began in 1847. I lost….Again. I thought i had bad luck… But… There was a new trial. The court found for me and my family and the court declaring me and my family Free I was extremely happy! But there was a problem.
This women, Eliza Emerson, Did Not agree. Emerson went to court and told the court she wanted to move to a higher court and also told them that she appealed the idea And…. the court listened to her. Me and my family were slaves again.
Now That was probably the worst day of my life.
But i didn’t give up I Still fought for me and my family's freedom. So i went to court again! However the court still ruled that me and my family were slaves. I was confused. Why? Well, because i was free but then i was a slave again.
What happened to me and my family after we lost our case? Peter Blow purchased me and my family and we were free! Again. So I took a job as a porter in a hotel in St louis, and my wife, Harriet Scott, took in the laundry at that same hotel!
Ok, Now That was the best day of my life!
