The murder of JonBenét Ramsey is a case that still goes unsolved to this day. While some speculate that the mother and/or father had something to do with the murder of their daughter, others believe that an intruder is responsible for her death. There are multiple clues supporting each theory. Despite these contrasting theories, no one has ever been charged for this pageant queen’s murder. The parents were eventually acquitted when DNA at the scene was found to belong to a male not related to the Ramsey family. (“JonBenet Ramsey Murder Fast Facts.”)…
In the case of Brock Turner and his execrable decision to rape an unconscious woman outside a fraternity house at Stanford University is most appalling and like any crime committed the consequence should be given in order that, that particular offender might have time to reflect on what they have done. In this particular case Turner has proven that the term rape is deemed so little in the eyes of the law. Instead of receiving a six year sentence he was simply given six months in an institution. Six years or six months no matter the sentence that young lady will be forever be scarred by what he has done to her physically, and emotionally. In her recent statement she said “My independence”, natural joy, gentleness, and steady lifestyle I had…

As you may know there are many people enraged about the decision that was made with the case of Brock Turner. Riots and other violent methods have been used to get certain points across; and I believe the best way to appropriately get points across with you is writing a letter. There have been accusations made claiming it was a case of male and class privilege. Was the six-month confinement in a county jail and three years of probation enough for the crime that Brock Turner committed? I understand that sanctions vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but sexual assault is something to be taken very seriously no matter the outcome of the situation, in this situation hurting the athlete’s reputation…

Rodney Glen King lll was an American taxi driver in Los Angeles, California. Tragically, he became nationally known after being identified as the victim, beaten by Los Angeles Police Department (L.A.P.D) officers following a high- speed car chase. Due to the incident, it caused riots all over the nation. California in particular, was the initial place the riots started. Early Sunday morning around 12:30 on March 3, 1991, Rodney King, along with two additional passengers, Bryant Allen and Freddie Helms, were driving on Interstate 210 when officers Tim and Melanie Singer, husband-and-wife members of the California Highway Patrol, noticed King's car speeding on the freeway.…
Woodall’s conviction of rape was overturned by a new DNA test which acquitted him (Principles and Practice). This acquittal is what brought the spotlight down on to Fred Zain since his testimony differed from the new results. The new results found that the hair evidence was actually from Woodall’s beard rather than pubic hair that Zain stated before. Zain had “reportedly never bothered to compare it with a hair sample from the man who owned the car” (Principles and Practice). An independent expert later determined that “Woodall could not possibly have committed the crimes because DNA evidence cleared him” (Ethics in forensic Science). Due to the uncoherent results and Woodall’s continuous plead of innocence, Woodall sued the State of West Virginia for false imprisonment which hauled Fred Zain in for criminal accusations (Scientific Fraud). This started an investigation on all of Zain’s work throughout his career which was ordered by the West Virginia Supreme…
February 26, 2012 marked the day that the innocent minor, Trayvon Martin, was shot to his death in a gated neighborhood in Sanford, Florida. The shooter, George Zimmerman, still has not faced any serious consequence for the murder. Many people in the Sanford community, and even around the country, believe that there is no question that Zimmerman should be convicted and sent to jail, but, unfortunately, it is not up to the people; it is up to the justice system. With the consideration of Florida’s state laws, this is a difficult case to foresee the outcome of George Zimmerman’s conviction and prosecution.…

Rolling Stone’s “A Rape on Campus” was one of the most scandalous journalism mistake ever seen. How a magazine such as Rolling Stone could publish an article that was a complete and total lie, is beyond me. In my opinion, Sabrina Erdely ignored many red flags that should have brought up some skepticism about the story she was reporting on. When Erdely first heard Jackie’s story she said, she remembered being “a bit incredulous” about the vividness of some of the details Jackie offered. This should have been the first red flag that something about this girl’s story was off, but Erdely believed that Jackie’s story was reliable so she continued. Another warning sign would be how Jackie was a “challenging source”. Not only would Jackie not respond to Erdely’s calls, texts and emails, but she also refused to release the name of the man who organized her attack. When Erdely finally did get the name of the man who had overseen her assault, Jackie was unsure how to spell his last name.…
Individuals break crimes all the time but some cases take America by storm with the mass amount of media coverage. The Scott Peterson trail is a prime example of a criminal case that took the nation by storm. What makes the Scott Peterson trail special is the fact that for the first time in California an individual was sentenced to death based solely on circumstantial evidence. In this paper I will be discussing the Scott Peterson case in three key areas background/summary, evidence, and finally crime elements.…
The culture surrounding the sport was completely changed by these white settlers, and one of the most telling incidents recent years at what this new lacrosse culture has evolved into was the Duke Lacrosse team rape scandal that occurred in 2006. The team was forced to stay on campus during their spring break that year to practice and prepare for upcoming games because their season was in full swing during that time. One author explains the events that stirred these rape allegations citing, “Traditionally, during the spring break week when the lacrosse players were stuck in town, the team had a “bonding party” at a local strip club. But the previous year, the club they selected began cracking down on fake identification and excluded the underage team members. To avoid this problem, some of the seniors decided to hire strippers to come to their off-campus house so everyone could participate in the fun.” (Seigel 4) That night most of the team had been drinking heavily since the early afternoon in preparations of the arrival of these strippers which set the stage for the events that followed that…
Many people disagreed with the outcome of the O.J. Simpson trial for the murder of Nicole Brown and Ronald Lyle Goldman. One of the reasons why O.J Simpson was not convicted was because a glove found at the scene didn’t fit Simpson’s hands. But even though the glove didn't fit, he should have been found guilty because he was known to be abusive towards his wife and Simpson was found rapidly leaving the crime scene in his van. Therefore, O.J Simpson most definitely did not get a fair trial.…
Michelle Kehoe lived in the town of Coralville, Iowa with her husband and two sons. Kehoe and her family first made headlines in 2007 when she lost control of her vehicle and drove off a bridge with her two sons in the back seat. It was during the month of December that Kehoe was driving her boys to the library when the car hit a curb, began to skid on a patch of ice and fell into the river. A few passersby on scene including a man named Cory Rath were fortunately able to help the mom and her two boys escape the car which was rapidly filling with icy water. Less than one year later Michelle Kehoe would be arrested for the murder of her youngest son, the attempted murder of her eldest and child endangerment which resulted in serious…
