the story “Typhoid Fever” by Frank McCourt. The quote from the story, “She brings me a chocolate bar and that proves Dad is working.” (McCourt, Pg.195) is my first evidence. The quote supports my reason because he is very happy for the small things he gets even though he is greatly ill. Frank is very happy because he knows that his dad is working, his mom can be able to visit him, and is just very happy to be alive. The evidence from the story “Typhoid Fever” explains how our attitude towards life defines who we are as people because he did not feel as if he alone and possibly going to die.
The second evidence come from the story “The Education of Frank McCourt” by Barbara Sande Dimmitt.
The quote from the story, “When I came to America, I dreamed bigger dreams. I loved reading and writing, and teaching was the most exalted profession I could imagine. I was unloading sides of beef down on the docks when I decided enough was enough. By then I’d done a lot of reading on my own, so I persuaded New York University to enroll me.”(Dimmitt, Pg. 201) is my second evidence. Some important information about the quote is that Frank McCourt did not have the advantages we have when he was our age, he did not have a good education since he never went to high school but will was able to enroll in New York University, and he was still a happy person and fulfilled his dreams. The quote supports my reason because if most people were in his situation, they would be unhappy with what they have and wont be able to succeed but he never gave up. The evidence from the story “Education of Frank McCourt” is a perfect example of how our attitude towards life defines who we are as people because he never gave up on his dream since he did not doubt …show more content…
himself.
The third and final evidence comes from my own personal experience.
My past experience was when I had a fever of 104º on a school day and my mom did not want me to stay home and miss school. Some important information about my experience is that everyone in school wanted me to go home until I got better, after school my friends got home from school, we went to play some games together, and the most important thing is that I felt better the next day. My experience supports my reason towards life because I maintained a positive attitude towards life even though I was really sick. The evidence from my personal experience is a great example of how our attitude towards life defines who we are as people because I did not feel depressed while I was
sick.
I think our attitude does define who we are as people because only we can affect the way we feel about our actions and our situations. My evidence that proves my thesis is that Frank McCourt does not complain about his illness, He never gave up on his dream, even if he did not have to much to start with, and that I never had a bad attitude about how sick I was. Us people always complain how bad out life is and never do anything about it. But if we actually stand up and try to make our life better, can will be able to achieve our dreams and have a better future. This is how our attitude towards life defines who we are as people.
