THE EFFECTS OF TELEVISION
Nowadays, television has become the most poppular media of human kind. It’s also the indisensable device in our daily life. Everyone must agree that the advantages of watching TV are very considerable. But beside those benefits, there are some disadvantages that we must notice to be sure that we watch TV most effectively.
What are Advantages of watching Television?
I. Advantages:
Informative. By watching news channel, we get updated with the things going around the world. Educational. Television can be very educational for the watcher. They can learn new things through educational programs and from TV in general. Family Bonding. The television makes for great family bonding. It allows a family to watch a show or movie together and share a great time together.
Intelligence. Complex TV shows or movies require a great deal of intelligence to understand the show or movie.
Learn about different cultures. The television brings in different kinds or people and cultures into your family room, such as the Travel channel and the Food Networking channel.
How to do things. The television is really good at informing the viewer how to do things. Either how to make, create or build things. By watching recipe channel, we can learn many recipes.
Entertainment. With the different reality TV shows, it makes for great entertainment.
Exercise. Television makes exercising a lot easier. You don't have to join a club or sign up for a exercise class to get professional exercise help.
Memory. Many drama shows require you to remember the plot from week to week. This will allow you to get the most out of the shows.
Everything contains good side and bad side and television has no exception
II. Disadvantages:
Wasting time is one of the inherent disadvantage of watching TV. Let’s imagine : if one day , one person spends a hour watching TV without gaining any useful information , then in one year he will waste 365 hours and in 10 year is 3605 hours. With that time , you can learn several language as well as finish some studying course
Watching television will have bad effect on our eyesight.
Another effect is obesity, which is widely observed in peope who like watching TV and eating snack everyday instead of playing outdoor games.
TV is such a powerful machine that people cannot get away from it – it is addictive.
Adult scenes, frequently shown on television, will have bad effect on children's mind.
Many time children's try to imitate some act, they have seen on television, which is dangerous for them.
Children watching scary shows may affect their mental condition.
Children watching any violent acts have more tendency to develop violent behaviour.
III. Conclusion:
Shortly, inventions are meant to be beneficial for human beings, if we know how to benefit from them. TV is one of such inventions that need to be used for the right purpose only – being educated and entertained for a resonable period of time. We may, them, be safe from or at least reduce the adverse physiological and psychological effects of watching too much TV
