The Effects Of The Emancipation Proclamation
In the eighteen hundreds, slavery was odious. Over three million men, women, and children were treated like property instead of human beings. This was until Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had tremendous effects. It declared freedom for most of the nation’s slaves, black men were permitted to join the Union Army, and men were allowed to vote despite their race. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January first, eighteen sixty-three by President Abraham Lincoln in order to assert freedom for most of the nations slaves. “Wild cheering greeted news of the signing”(Clancy 1). Astounded were the slaves and abolitionist leaders by the freedom they had been waiting so long for.
