Ferguson Summary
This article goes deep into the back-story of someone one may not want to hear about, this someone being Darren Wilson. No one knows his whole story, and no one near him is talking about the incident that has occurred, the shooting of Michael Brown. Wilson works in the Jennings, Missouri police department. This particular department has been reported to have questionable credibility. What kind of person would one expect to be involved with this kind of case? Darren Wilson’s past hardships and all the tense conditions that already exist between officers and their communities played a great role in the incident that took place in Ferguson, Missouri and why there are so many people Wilson’s his side.
Everyone that is at all close to Wilson are silent. However, in this day and age there is always a way to find information about someone. Wilson’s parents divorced when her was two or three years old. His mother remarried and they moved to Missouri where she again divorced and remarried. When Wilson was a freshman in high school, his mother pleaded guilty to forgery and stealing. She was sentenced to five years, but served it on probation. In 2002 Wilson’s mother died and he was left for the next two years with his first stepfather as his guardian. When Wilson turned 18 he “sought out a career in law enforcement as a way to create a solid foundation in his life that he’d been missing” (Leonnig, Kindy, and Achenbach 22). This seemed like a pretty good idea, but he joined the force in the middle of all the racial tension that exists between a white police force and a black community.
In the police force in the Ferguson area, there were “allegations involving use of force that raised questions” (50). Police officers rarely stay in the same department over their career.
