After reading Washington's website they describe the process, how they dive up the money is by districts. How the state describes it is”receive what is allocated to them by a series of funding formulas and revenue collection systems”. So all of the funding to school districts is put into their formula(which to this point I have not been able to find, even after an interview with a district superintendent). Looking into this formula a little more I wanted to figure out how it works so I set up a meeting with Superintendent Mr. Morrow who is in charge of Tahoma School district . During my interview he was able to only briefly describe to me how it worked. The only part of the formula he told me was they factor in the number of students and special ED students. What I found was the average between Tahoma and Seattle School District is $10,849 dollars per student. An unexpected problem I have ran into is finding the answer to this question, why is the state and school districts hiding their money they are receiving from the government? Evan Mr. Morrow told me as him and I were walking toward our meeting was that my topic was a very hard one to talk about. The reason is I want to find out if the top schools with the most funding are making more high school graduates than schools with less funding. If I find out it doesn't then we can look at other …show more content…
All depends on several things. From what I found is it depends on your race and not so much on teachers or the public education system. How I came to this conclusion is looking at Tahoma we have a 90% graduation rate rather than 76% percent graduation rate which is mostly made up of White, Asian-Americans and Multiracial. So I am concluding from all of my research a several factors. The first is trying to figure out how the Washington state divides up the money is a complicated process and takes extensive research. The second thing I found is teacher motivations can vary but most teachers find value in watching students successes in high school. The last thing is very controversial but with the data that I found I am concluding that the reason why schools are so low in academics is racial groups. Now this does not mean I am saying there should be no effort to change, actually I am on the contrary. I feel that if we can help bridge the gap between races we would be able to bring up the graduation rates among racial
