In December of 1907, his mother, Klara Hitler, died because of breast cancer. In January of 1907, a Jewish doctor had examined Adolf’s mother and discovered this malignant cancer. The worst part for Hitler was that he could do nothing about this cancer. Klara suffered for sleepless nights and endless pain. This had a lot of emotional effects on Adolf, who was only seventeen years old, who loved his mother. A couple weeks after Klara’s death, Hitler tried to retake the entry exam for the Fine Arts Academy in Vienna. This academy is a high class academy which would usually accept rich families with a lot of prior training of painting and drawing. Hitler came from a middle class family. This school had taught many famous artists such as Alois Arnegger, Gottfried Lindauer, and many more artists. He was obviously distraught by his mother’s death and when Adolf attempted to take the entry exam again, after he failed the first time, he failed that second test too. After two failed attempts in trying to get into the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Adolf ran out of money and lived in a homeless shelter. Hitler had been aiming for this school early on in his childhood, which made it more devastating when he got turned down. He joined the German Army, and in 1918, Germany admits defeat. Hitler was irritated because he was very patriotic and got injured in the Battle of Somme in 1916, after getting shot in his upper thigh. After the loss, Hitler gained major interest in politics and the idea of backstabbing. In 1919, Hitler becomes a Corporal, and goes to to join the German Workers Party. He went to the meeting and is told to read a pamphlet and is interested in the group because in the pamphlet, the political ideas and beliefs stated in the pamphlet are similar to those that Hitler holds himself. The political ideas shared between Hitler and Drexler, the author of the pamphlet, included building a strong nationalist, anti-semitic, pro-military party made up of working class people. The German Worker’s Party mainly consisted of mainly an executive committee which consisted of seven people, including Adolf Hitler. Hitler stuck with this group and attended many meetings. The German Worker’s Party finally started to hold public meetings to get more attention and gain followers. The group saved up money and printed leaflets and pamphlets to give to attendee, and posters to advertise this public meeting.
