The way Norman Mailer wrote it was outstanding. I enjoyed how he was at the scene himself, but did not write it in his perspective. He wrote it in the third person, addressing himself in the story as Norman Mailer. This writing style is not written by other authors of the same genre. If the authors were at the scene, they would write it from their perspective. It helps you to realize that this is a true story seeing that the author has placed himself in the story. I also enjoyed all the background information that was given about the fight. Other books that would have documented the fight would have only done the fight and maybe after the fight. Mailer’s story tells before the fight, during the fight and after the fight to help you better understand what was actually happening during the time of the fight and how it started as well as ended. The book introduces the theme that an underdog can always win, as Muhammad Ali proved against George Foreman since he had odds 3:1 against him. The theme was effective in a sense that it got its point across. The book also appealed to me in a logical way by showing how someone who was older and slower could still defeat the world heavyweight
