The Final Solution: The Prevention Of Genocide
Adolf Hitler decided to get rid of Jews. The men that worked for him demanded the Jews to remove their clothes and forced them to get in the “shower” with a group of people. Once they were in they shut the doors Visualize that you are being forced to shower with many people at once, and as the “water” begins to come out you realize it is poisonous gas. As you breath each breath gets shorter and shorter until you die of suffocation. What would be your last thoughts? It all began with Adolf Hitler’s rise to power. He wanted to get rid of all the Jewish people, handicaps, elderly, homosexuals, and young children; known as “The Final Solution.” The Nazi’s established ghetto’s in Poland after “The Night of the Broken Glass,” which was when the Nazis ruined Jewish businesses. After moving the Jews and others into concentration camps, they were either killed instantly(in many ways)or had to work for Hitler without getting paid and without reason. According to the United States Memorial Museum, there is a few ways to avoid a future genocide. For example, we could learn about risk factors and getting the government and world more involved. This means be government should be more involved in the prevention of another genocide. They could let people know about the risk factors by using those that lead to the holocaust; like racism, the type of president(include background checks from now on), and hate. The website states that there should also be warning signs, such as people calling in if they see a specific group being targeted to help prevent the genocide. If people are to call in for that reason it could stop a lot of racism or just violence in general, or any act of mass violence against any combatants.     Lenn Goodman presented a good argument about certain things that are simply wrong. In his article, he specified that the sole areas in the article are not inclusive of every consideration to which humans are rightful; he argues that these are some of the practices that should never be regarded as an alternative. Goodman addresses these areas as: Genocide, politically induced famine, germ warfare, terrorism, hostage taking, child warriors, slavery, polygamy, incest, rape and female genital cutting (Goodman, 2010, pg.88). According to Goodman, “Genocide is uglier than murder because it targets individuals as members of a group”. It includes eliminating a certain group of people or a tribe. In some African countries, politically induced famine is utilized to control the population and germ warfare is used to wipe out the enemy. Militant and political groups’ choices are example of relativism. Relativism argues that moral claims must be evaluated relative to a person, a culture, or a society: rather than something being right or wrong, it is right or wrong relative to the values of a specific community (Mosser, 2010). According to Mosser, this argument may seem to eliminate a number of disagreements, but it may prevent us from insisting that something really is, simply, wrong. I agree that genocide is morally and simply wrong, it is embedded in our society that this act is unacceptable even in the eyes of God and mankind. Goodman expressed that terrorism is the act of willfully targeting non-combatants aiming to intimidate and attract attention (Mosser, 2010, p.14).
