In this report, the five leadership qualities I used to grade each president were: decision-making, making successful foreign policy, making successful domestic policy, leadership, and crisis management. We make dozens of decisions a day unconsciously. Each decision have consequences that can be positive or negative. Having a president with good decision-making skills helps increase the number of positive outcomes within a country and diminish the negatives. Being an indecisive leader can cause chaos and confusion within the American people. The general population looks at the president for comfort in times of conflict and without decision-making skills, their leadership may be questioned. Overall he received a B, out of the five categories: decision-making, making successful foreign policy, making successful domestic policy, leadership, and crisis management. I gave him a B in four out of the five categories, and only one A in leadership. I rewarded Reagan an A in leadership because he helped in America’s comeback after the economic and security crises seen in the late 1970’s. The United States was suffering the worst economic chaos since the Great Depression and tensions were uneasy with the Soviet Union, the aftermath of the Vietnam War, etc. Americans felt that the United States’ position in the international field was in jeopardy. During his presidency, Ronald Reagan was able to revive America’s spirit and connect with the American people through unforeseen ways. I believe that he was the most successful because he truly embodied America. He fought to restore prosperity within the United States, through its military, economy, and morale. His usage of Reaganomics helped reinstate economic vitality that provided the longest period of peacetime economic growth in U.S. history. He also rebuilt the U.S.’s defense by increasing technology in the armed forces. His SALT talks and the Star Wars initiative were all successful and helped eased tensions during the Cold War. Using these examples, I think Ronald Reagan was more successful in all five categories than Bush or Clinton. His leadership skills brought out another side of Americans that boosted their hopes and dreams of the country. Thanks to his presidency, Reagan was able to show that the United States was still a top contender against other superpowers such as, the Soviet Union and
