Identify and summarize the stages of group development According to the text, Christine and the group are in the stages of conflict as shown in figure 10.2, Antecedents, Felt conflict, Manifest conflict, Conflict resolution, and Conflict suppression. Professor Thiel assigns each group a task to be evaluated by their peers. Mike seems a little distant at the first meeting and never wanting to join the group. When Mike bumped into them at school having lunch, he would give them a vague look. They never spoke to him or the professor about this situation.
Identify Key Problems The primary problem for the group is their class members will be evaluating how they dealt with problem at hand and Mike isn’t making it any better by not cooperating or corresponding with the team. The secondary problem is Christine and the group is trying to deal with Mike without the Professor being involved. Christine and the team should have noticed how distant Mike was during the first meeting. They should have gone to Professor Thiel after he declined and came up with an excuse not to attend any meetings, knowing he would affect their overall grade.
Given that there is no “one perfect solution” for this situation, identify, describe, and defend two possible solutions to the primary problem(s).
The class was put into groups to complete a task which will be evaluated. Mike never wanted to participate in the group meetings; he gave Christine notes on their project. Everyone in their group was capable of carrying on without Mike. If they didn’t have his input and cooperation they were to discuss the matter with the professor. According to the text, Christine compromised with him, trying to get him to meet with the rest of the group. She done everything she could to empathize with him regarding his girlfriend. Christine and the group should

The student was quite ill for most of the session and her instructor took the time to read her emails and respond quickly. When the student was in so much pain she was unable to get her individual project in on time the instructor was kind enough not to take any points off of the project. The student assumes this is because she was honest with the instructor and asked for permission to turn in the project late. The student had many issues with the discussion board during this session. She has never had so many problems posting to the discussion board and the instructor was kind enough to let it slide, so to speak. The student went back into the board area for this final individual project and realized that she missed two times that others replied to her discussion board. It has been her experience since she began her work here at Colorado Technical University that she rarely gets feedback in discussion boards even though she works diligently to make sure that she replies to the required amount of peers. She is not sure what the problem might be, she always feels she makes a valid discussion and tries to critique her peers responses as fairly as possible. She does feel sometimes that she might intimidate some of her classmates, therefore, they rarely respond to her posts. She knows, again, through experience, not only in this class but her previous classes…

Christine should understand that the blend of individual personalities and how people related to one another in groups based on their needs to express and receive feelings of inclusion, control and affection are important to the success of the team. By understanding the needs of her team members, she can build group processes to address those needs. For example, since Mike initially revealed himself as a class clown, she could allow him the opportunity to be creative with his contribution to the project and present part of the case in class to let his humor shine through in a manner that…

The book mentions that “Much more support can be obtained if problems are approached from a problem-solving orientation, where everyone involved is asked for his or her input,” (Brownell 273). It seems as though this conversation was very one-sided. I think that the director should have allowed for individuals to have their input on the proper way to handle this situation. Instead of saying that the situation is not fair or that people were planning on quitting over the summer does not solve any of the issues. It probably would have been wise to say instead, “I feel as if this situation needs to be discussed in more detail. Many people have questions they would like to have answered and the best way to do that would be to come back another day and discuss this with clear minds.” I realize that this was a difficult situation for everyone, but following with these responses would have helped make the situation more supportive instead of…

    The Wave

Mr. Ross was wrong in manipulating his students. I believe that because his manipulation caused many things to go wrong and many people got hurt with it too. When he finally ended in what he had done, it affected all the Wave members greatly in which many students like Robert might have done something to his life if the movie continued on or so I think. Many people were even getting hurt when stood up to the Wave like Laurie. Laurie knew that it was leading the wrong way and so she tried her best to stop but the only person who could actually stop this whole gang is the creator of it. This was not the only way Laurie’s question could have been answered. The need of doing this experiment was not really necessary because Mr. Ross knew where this experiment will lead if it was successful and it actually was. So by giving the students a sense of a “gang” going successful without any extreme work, the students can create their own anytime if they have wanted to. Which could have soon become very disastrous because, Mr. Ross stopped the gang he created just because he understood how it was hurting others and where it was leading the students, but what if the creator of the new gang won’t understand that? So there are actually many things to think about when dealing with creating a gang and manipulating a bunch of people. Now remember, this happened in the past and it worked and so this could have happened then and it was working until it got stopped. So by this creation many people got hurt, skipped their classes which lowered their marks, and people who wanted to stand up couldn’t because they got scared. So if by stopping this was a good idea, then by creating this was a bad…
