The Forgotten Victim From Florence And Normandie Analysis
When reading the article “The forgotten victim from Florence and Normandie” by Steve Lopez, I started to develop mixed feelings about this horrific incident. I was in disbelief that the LAPD did absolutely nothing to resolve this issue. I don’t understand how they were just able to sit and watch as innocent people were left defenseless against angry mobs. Many people were injured and robbed of their possessions. Leaving them to fend for themselves. I believe if the LAPD intervened there would have been a different outcome.
I am profound by the inhumane acts that occurred during this time. Fidel Lopez was fortunate enough to have been saved by a good man after being severely beaten and almost set on fire. He was able to comprehend the anger

Later, he wanted more and asked doodle to learn to swim, to run and to do everything that normal kids could do. So it comes to the question: is it is the brother’s fault that caused the sad ending and do the motives matter in the end though you are doing something good?It looks conflicting in the story. Brother taught Doodle to walk with selfish motivation, but he succeeded and everyone was happy. Many of the citizens were either unhelped or accused of looting or other crimes. However, prior to the natural disaster, the New Orleans police department had a reputation of being corrupt. Many of the officers were commanded to “shoot looters” and “take back the city”, in which many of the looters were helpless in that situation. Some innocent civilians were even shot during the days after Katrina hit despite them committing no crimes. One factor, however, that stood out of the corruption was the racial stereotyping that was involved. Since after 9/11, muslims were seen as dangerous, often labeled “terrorist” or “Al Qaeda”. This was true for Zeitoun, for he and his friends (whom one was muslim) were accused at the train station and arrested at the Greyhound Center for suspected terrorism. The majority of the civilians left behind were African American, which they were discriminated amongst white police officers as well. This unfortunately happened in many cases, where innocent people were locked up for minor misdemeanors and bails were set at outrageous prices. A misdemeanor whose bail would be $500 under federal law was $10,000 dollars under law forces in New Orleans. This received national attention in which many people blamed both the federal and state governments for not establishing a more organized system of justice. This corruption amongst police forces in…

From 1900 to 1950, American had a lot of economic influence in Cuba. America had imperialized Cuba, owning most of the businesses and land, and took advantage of the Cubans; they worked long hours for little pay. At this time, it was the dictator Fulgencio Batista who was in power and he supported United States involvement. This was odd because American policies would normally go against alliances with dictators; however since Batista was not communist America remained at peace with him. Because America had imperialized in Cuba, the Cubans had a steep fall to the bottom of their own social hierarchy. In 1953, a man names Fidel Castro tried to overthrow Batista but failed and was imprisoned. Castro was a communist who was deeply inspired by Karl Marx and his book The Communist Manifesto. “When we speak of the struggle, the people mean the vast unredeemed masses, to whom all make promises and who all deceive; we men the people who yearn for a better, more dignified and more just nation (Castro Cuban Revolution Doc 1).” In this quote, Castro explains where all of the man power for his revolution will come from; those who want to be seen as equal. When Castro was released in 1956, he spent three years walking along the country side of…

As you know, the Detroit Riots took place in 1967. Around 5:20 pm, outside the bar, additional police were sent to calm the area down. John Conyers, a Detroit congressman, stood up on a car to silence the crowd, shortly after being pelted with bricks and bottles. As if that wasn’t enough, around 1:00 police officer reported injuries from objects thrown at them. Firefighters came and, too, were pelted with objects. In June 1947, Castro learned of a planned expedition to invade the Dominican Republic and overthrow the right-wing military junta of Rafael Trujillo, a U.S. ally.[20] Being President of the University Committee for Democracy in the Dominican Republic, Castro joined the expedition.[21] Launched from Cuba, the invasion began on July 29, 1947; it consisted of around 1,200 men, mostly exiled Dominicans or Cubans. However, Grau's government arrested many of those involved before they set sail; Castro evaded arrest.[22] Returning to Havana, Castro took a leading role in the student protests against the killing of a high school pupil by government bodyguards.[23] The protests, accompanied by crackdown on those considered communists, led to violent clashes between protesters and police in February 1948, in which Castro was badly beaten.[24] At this point his public speeches took on a distinctively leftist slant, condemning the social and economic inequalities of Cuba, something in contrast to his former public criticisms, which had centered around condemning corruption and U.S. imperialism.[24]…

A few weeks after Batista’s 1952 coup, young lawyer Fidel Castro filed a case in Havana’s Court of Constitutional Guarantees. He accused the dictator of having violated the Cuban Civil Code of ‘illegally holding the officers of president, Prime Minister, Senator, Major General and civil and military chief’ and demanding that he be punished for crimes against the Constitution. The judges refused his case. The then 25 year-old lawyer, Fidel Castro began to make his plans for revolution.…
