The Frightening memory
The Frightening memory That year, I was thirteen years old. One weekend, I was playing with my younger sister in a park. We played the swings, slides and ridded our bicycles. We were very happy. After few hours, my sister said she was hungry, and then, we went to a supermarket to buy some snacks. My sister said she wanted to eat some cookies. When we entered the supermarket, we were looking for the shelf where the cookies were because we didn’t know where they were. When we found them, we were very happy and went there to get some cookies. At that time, the frightening thing happened. We saw three men put some cookies stealthily in their backpack. I realized that they were thieves. Unfortunately, they discovered us. They were trying to follow us. We were very afraid. At once, I pretended I were looking for something and didn’t see what they had done. Then I went to crowded place with my sister. There was a sale there, so the thieves couldn’t do anything to us. We still pretended to be shopping and no know anything. After at few minutes, the thieves believed that we didn’t see anything about them. So they went away and my sister and I came home also. Although, we came home safely at last. I was still very afraid about what had happened that day. I couldn’t tell my mother what had happened because I didn’t want her to worry about us. Also, I didn’t know if I did the right thing because if I saw someone commit a crime but did not say anything. However, I decided that I would not go out without adult for awhile.

It was Tuesday, March first, 2011, my mother woke me up so I can start getting ready for school. I rose with eager anticipation, just four more days until my thirteenth birthday and I just couldn’t wait. I brushed my teeth and hurried down to eat the complimentary breakfast offered to us by the hotel we were staying at. You see we had been staying at a hotel for the past five months because the home we had been renting was foreclosed on so the utility companies turned off the power and the electricity. We had to get down at just the right time so that there was a small crowd but a lot of food so that we can take food back to the room to save for dinner. After breakfast, we…

No class, no recess, and we had to eat lunch in the resource room. We were put in 3 separate cubicles and given busy work periodically so we wouldn’t talk to each other. Even that didn’t work since I had no idea what to do but talk. That only caused more trouble since a near silent whisper would send the resource lady barking off the walls at me, and whoever I was talking to. After all these events had occurred, I swiftly learned that stealing somebody's belongings is certainly not a good thing.…

There are a significant number of people tried for crimes that they did not commit based off of another’s repressed memory. Elizabeth Loftus made it her goal to find justice for those wrongfully accused. It is hard to say whether or not those accused are truly innocent or not, but what we can say is that too many people are being locked away without all the right evidence; just another’s memory of what might have happened. Loftus found it unlikely that any one person could forget such a traumatic experience, then remember it years later. It was later found that a majority of the accusers were seeing therapists. Could this have lead to the repressed memories showing up after many years of harboring them? How do we know that…

This paper will discuss an article written in 2012 by Scientific American about memories in general.
