This took place in the 1960's. Anita is a protagonist of the story. She is only 12 years of age. During this time Trujillo governed the Dominican Republic. He killed innocent people. Every household had to have a picture of him hanging on the walls or you would be considered as a tarator. He had to be treated and respected as if he was a king. He would also go with his soldiers to people's houses and request the daughters. He did not care what age they may be. If the families did not comply they would be captured. He then would torture them and kill them. Anita's father and uncle ran an underground group
