Simon becomes strong and helpful as the book goes on while the rest of the boys give up building shelters Simon is the only one who stays to help Ralph. After Ralph gets annoyed that no one is helping he says, “all day I’ve been working with Simon. No one else. They’re off bathing, or eating, or playing”(50). Another attribute that has changed about Simon is that he is now very brave. Jack is brave enough to cross the island by himself when Ralph asks who wants to go tell piggy that they won’t be coming back tonight Simon says, “I don’t mind going”(118). Simon arguably becomes the bravest kid on the island he goes through the island at night by himself, but that isn’t it he even goes up the mountain by himself to find out if the beast is real what Simon figures out what no one else ever does is that the beast isn’t actually a beast. One of the bad traits that Simon a quires as his time on the island goes on is that he becomes very distorted. The night that he dies Simon…

Simon Glass’s character in the beginning of the novel was the typical nerd who gets made fun of and pushed around. Simon Glass was an insecure person and resulted to him to having no friends. “What's the deal, Rob? You just woke up this morning and decided Simon Glass was your best buddy?” Simon is confused why Rob wants to be his friend because he's the school nerd and Rob runs the school (22). Simon gets accepted into the group and is now liked by people. Overtime Simon starts to get more comfortable and changes more into Rob saying “This was all Lance. I didn't make him do anything. I just gave him the rope to hang himself” (130). It's now Simon who knows what it feels like to be in control and wants more if it. But not everyone liked that idea and not everyone liked the new Simon. At the end of the book it seems everyone likes Simon and he's taken over Lance’s spot. Nobody really knew what happened behind the scenes. Rob did change Simon but not for the better. At the end when Rob was beating Simon he shouts “Christ, what a group we've got here. One is the son of some kind of faggot, another who's so chicken that he ought to be a woman, and you…” He jabbed his finger in my direction. “One who's such a pussy that he gives up his girl because somebody told him to. And to think, Young, it was all for nothing. Ronna’s gone and Simon Glass has her and all you're left is shit. Tell us how…

The sledge knocked in the hill and Jonas was jarred loose and thrown violently into the air. He fell with his leg twisted under him while he could hear the crack of his bone. His face scraped along sharp edges of ice when he lay shocked with fear. Then he felt the first wave of pain. It was like a hatchet lay lodged in his leg, cutting through each nerve with a hot blade. He tried to move but couldn’t because the pain grew. He screamed and turned his head and vomited on to the frozen snow.…

We are introduced to Jonas, the eleven-year-old protagonist of the story, as he struggles to find the right word to describe his feelings as he approaches an important milestone. He rejects “frightened” as too strong a word, recalling a time when he had really been frightened: a year ago, an unidentified aircraft flew over his community—it was a strange and unprecedented event, since Pilots were not allowed to fly over the community. As Jonas remembers the community reaction to the event, we learn more about the society in which he lives. It is extremely structured, with official orders transmitted through loudspeakers planted all around the community. As a punishment, the pilot was “released” from the community—the worst fate that can befall a citizen. Jonas decides he is apprehensive, not frightened, about the important thing that is going to happen in December. Jonas and his society value the use of precise and accurate language.…

The Giver by Lois Lowry is a directive novel about how structured lifestyle could lead to absence of being a true human. In a lifestyle of freedom, people are not mainly subjected to how they should feel and also what to have feelings for. For instance, in a country like United States, as a citizen you have the right to freedom which is stated in its Constitution. In such, there is little to no infringement as to what you choose to believe in or have feelings for. Gustave Flaubert once said ‘the more humanity advances, the more it is degraded’. This novel clearly clarifies the meaning of Flaubert’s quote. In their habitat called the Community, the people have cultivated the concept of “Sameness”. This refers to their beliefs in everything being of the same nature and life. Everyone looks the same with no differentiation between color and race. The only depictions of differences among people were by age or future assignments.…

In discussions of The Ultimate Gift, controversial issue has been how Red decided to divide his money up on his written will. On one hand, Reds relatives argue who inherits Reds prized possessions. On the other hand, Mr.Hamilton contends, they should be more concerned about Reds death, than his money. Others even maintain that its ridiculous how greedy Reds relatives are. My own view is that his relatives do not deserve money because they don't appreciate it and just expect it. In other words, his relatives think they will find happiness in money, but that is not the case. Red agrees when he writes, " Only as an old man did I come to learn that all happiness comes from the gifts that God has given us."( Jim Stovall pg.24) This is not to say…
