The Giver Personal Response
Lois Lowry wrote an award Winning book called "The Giver", the story is based on a dystopian world were no one is able to make their own choices and their emotions are controlled.The story is about a boy named Jonas who is chosen to be a receiver, and receives memories from the Giver. Jonas notices what's happening in the memories and how wonderful some are, but he is also shown the truth behind being released, very very cruel, the way they kill innocent people Jonas just does not like that. Jonas and The Giver decided that everyone in the community needs to know the truth. They made a plan to escape the community and leak the memories, Jonas set off on a journey. This story is about taking risks and making choices, because mostly everyone in the story makes a choice that decides their fate. One risk and critical choice of story is, Jonas decided to leave the community and leak the memories.In the story on pg. 158 it says this " having you here with me over the past year has made me realize that things must change. For years I've felt that they should, but it seemed so hopeless","it was possible what they …show more content…
On pg.169 it clearly states this,"He had stolen his father's bicycle.","but it was necessary because it had the childseat attached to the back. And he had taken Gabriel too." Jonas made the decision to take Gabriel because he knew that Gabe's release date was due the next day, and with his intel he knew that being released was not a good thing. Jonas did this knowing that it would affect his performance on his journey and he knew that Gabe would hold him back a little because he had to worry about taking care of him too. The reason why Jonas is doing all this is because he wants everyone to feel different emotions like pain, love, and happiness this all connects to another major decision Jonas

Tom’s life has changed him and his mum grows further away slowly not talking to each other. Kylies life has changed to she has lost all her friends because they had to move schools. And fin has nothing left and her mother has trouble looking after her it is hard on every one.     Imagine a world without color, pain, or feelings. It sounds terrible. The Giver is a book about a community that people in the community do not have to be worry about anything. In other words, they never experience the joy of life and success. Jonas’ community is a strict community to avoid negative emotions. However (TRANS), there are many things that citizens are not allowed to do by themselves. The purpose of this paragraph is to contrast the Jonas’ community to our community. First of all, in Jonas’ community everyone lives by the community’s rules. It means their food, their family, their decisions are chosen for them because they are under the community’s control. However, in our community people can make their own decisions and choose their favorite food to eat. Second, in Jonas’s community the Elders control the population. It means that kids are not raised in a house. They are raised in a center for a year and will be given to family, but (TRANS) the Elders are the ones to decide who can be assigned to care for children. However, in our community people have their own children and it does not matter how many children they want to have (INF). Another difference is that when they turn twelve, the children are given a job assignment and start training (GER) for their job, and after that, they work more till they become a responsible adult.
