The Hero And The Hero's Journey

Have you ever given the word hero a second thought? Everyone has a different hero, some might be family, friends, or famous people. Are these heroes the right heroes to look up to, or are they even true heroes. The concept of the hero and the hero’s journey is useful to the individual trying to understand their own life by helping others in need, doing what they love, and having a reason to live for. First, heroes and their journey are useful to the individual trying to understand their own life by helping others in need. For example, “Philips, a former Boston cab driver, didn’t have any weapons to take on the pirates with, so he tried to trade himself for the pirate his crew had captured. (Gibbs).” This shows that Philips was brave enough
For example, “Since I am a huge fan of bicycle racing, I am very disappointed, [but] why is it that I am so disappointed? Because in my view it’s a beautiful sport, of course, but also because something else is the case: a hero has been knocked of his pedestal. (“Do We Need Our Heroes”).” This passage of text shows that this person was doing what they loved, which was bicycle racing, until knocked off their pedestal. It also shows that heroes can fall after rising and the higher they rise, the harder they fall. It also shows that in America, most parents would rather have their child do sports than intellectual extracurricular activities even if it’s not what their child loves to do. It also shows that her mother was her life and Boyle wanted to make her happy by following her dreams. Another example is, “…the case of the American pro-cyclist Lance Armstrong who had won the Tour de France cycle race seven times in succession with the help of doping… (“Do We Need Our Heroes”).” This passage of text shows that for Lance Armstrong, he loved to be in pro-cycle races, but with the help of doping. It also shows that he was doing this for multiple years which was enough time for him to become a hero to some. These are just some reasons why heroes and their journey are important to the individual trying to understand their own life by having a reason to live
