For example, “Since I am a huge fan of bicycle racing, I am very disappointed, [but] why is it that I am so disappointed? Because in my view it’s a beautiful sport, of course, but also because something else is the case: a hero has been knocked of his pedestal. It also shows that heroes can fall after rising and the higher they rise, the harder they fall. (Gibbs).” This quote shows that since Boyle’s mother encouraged her to sing before she died, that was her reason to live. It also shows that her mother was her life and Boyle wanted to make her happy by following her dreams. Another example is, “…the case of the American pro-cyclist Lance Armstrong who had won the Tour de France cycle race seven times in succession with the help of doping… (“Do We Need Our Heroes”).” This passage of text shows that for Lance Armstrong, he loved to be in pro-cycle races, but with the help of doping. It also shows that he was doing this for multiple years which was enough time for him to become a hero to some.
