I think this emerged when I was little and evolved as I grew up and even now. I was taught to thank god every day. During my childhood I spent a lot of time with my grandma who is like the friendliest person I know. No matter where we are, she makes a friend. My mom was always working and she taught me to get far in life I need to work for it. I think this cultural language does work in my favor to social structure because it has taught be good morals and

The culture I chose to explore is the Hispanic culture. The term “Hispanic came from the United States federal government in the 1970’s to group a large but diverse population to connect the language and culture from a Spanish-speaking country. Hispanic is not a race but an ethnic classification (Understanding the Hispanic Culture, n.d.). The Hispanic culture has a wide ancestry which includes Spanish, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, Central and South American regions. Over the past thirty years the Hispanic population has had a tremendous rate of growth in the United States (Clutter, n.d.). The Hispanic culture is often misunderstood or misrepresented as having stressful financial issues or poor education. The important aspect of their culture that is being ignored is the importance of family values, which is a large part of a traditional Hispanic family.…

It is human nature to try and categorize the surrounding world. Science created a classification system in order to visualize the similarities between animals and plant life. The problem with this system occurs when one does not fit into a specific place. Even amongst themselves, humans have tried to assort themselves based on outward appearances, but many people fail to comprehend how diverse the human race truly is. Throughout history, variances in skin color, hair type and facial structures have been used to distinguish between types of people; among these, is the labels placed on each ethnicity. The ‘Hispanic’ group is one of the largest populated ethnicities with multiple countries that fitting into it. However, each nation, is completely…

An anonymous author wrote “Our culture, our traditions, our language are the foundations upon which we build our identity.” This brings out what Tanya Maria Barrientos argues throughout her essay, “Se Habla Español.” She struggled to identify herself as Latino and embracing her Spanish heritage. So at a young age, she decided to step away from America’s stereotypical view of Latin’s and embrace what she thought was the correct way to live. One main thing she didn’t want was to be able to speak Spanish, because she thought people would automatically judge her. Like Barrientos, I how was raised had a lot to do with my identity and how I perceived myself and the world.…

America’s healthcare system has shown an increasing need for professional nurses who are trained and skilled in providing culturally competent care. With diverse cultures from all over the world each has their own beliefs and views towards health, illness, and healing. For today’s nurses to provide competent care they must recognize and respect the traditions and beliefs of each culture. Nurses must understand who they themselves are and put aside their personal opinions and beliefs to care for each patient without judgment. In trying to gain knowledge on a culture I wasn’t familiar with I interviewed my friend AW who is a native born Mexican American. Her insight into the Mexican culture and their views of health, illness, and healing provided many similarities and differences than that of the American culture. With Americas’ largest minority population being from Mexican backgrounds, nurses must be culturally competent towards their beliefs and customs to provide them with more effective and positive care.…

In a Hispanic household the language that is spoke is considered Spanish. Under the “umbrella” term Hispanic you have a breakdown of the different types of Hispanics such as Mexicans, Puertoricans, Dominicans, Cubans and Panamanians that speak Spanish but their words have similar yet different meanings. Usually in an older generation Hispanic household the language is spoken by everyone including the children. When speaking to outsiders the Hispanic family prefers to speak Spanish unless the other individual does not understand it. It is very hard for the older generation of Hispanics to attempt to speak to the new generation because the newer generation speaks English. Many older generation Hispanics were never really taught how to speak English.…

To learn more about Mexican Culture I interviewed a friend named Sofia that used to live in Monterrey, Mexico. I played sports with Sofia in high school so I knew her and her family pretty well and I felt comfortable going to her house for dinner. Her father made home-made tamales for dinner and she made pineapple stuffed empanadas for dessert. After dinner, we discussed Mexican culture and traditions, her life in Mexico, and also her life here in America.…

By doing this, my family and I get to see and learn a lot about other cultures and languages that people use to live by and communicate with. Viewing all of this at such a young age, has made more appreciative of things growing up and also helps me get a better global perspective. I am exposed to many new things and enviorments that most people would never experience in their entire life time. When going to other parts of the country and spending time living life in other people 's shoes, you tend to start to feel a little bit of culture shock and begin to wish you were back home.…
