The History of Womens Fashion: Modesty
Modesty means feeling or appearing to feel humbly about oneself. A modest man does not boast of his own merits or achievements. He rather feels shy, if anyone praises him in his presence. He shows his regard for conventional decencies in dress or behavior.

Modesty is one of the finest qualities of man and is akin to politeness. A man may have many good qualities, but if he is not modest, he can not command respect, and even his good qualities are overlooked. Humble are the wise. They do not pretend to say that they know what they do not know. They listen to the big and the small with equal attention, and try to learn from others, by giving equal prominence to everyone. So a modest person is loved by all.

A modest person does not try to show his wisdom unless he is asked to do so. He possesses a noble heart. His outlook about life is broad. He is generous in his behavior and simple by nature. Sweetness of his character attracts those who come near him. He is the storehouse of good forces in life. He does not envy his neighbors or enemies; he becomes happy to see others prosper in life.

A person, who is immodest or indecent, suffers in life. His false pride sometimes brings about his own disaster. An immodest person is hated for his arrogance, and avoided by the civilized people. He is ignorant of his own merit, standard or status, and over-estimates himself in all matters. Pride may sometime bring about his disaster.

A modest man is a like a pure gem. He helps and advises others for their welfare. He is honest and patient, steady and trustworthy.

Now to a Ladies fashion. I AM of opinion, That the common complaints against Providence are ill-grounded, and that the good or bad qualities of men are the causes of their good or bad fortune, more than what is generally imagined. There are, no doubt, instances to the contrary, and these too pretty numerous; but few, in comparison of the instances we have of a right distribution of prosperity and adversity:

Chapter one: Humility, discusses the traditions followed three days after a girl was born into the world. Whoever would visit her would make a sacrifice. Also the baby girl would be placed “below the bed to show that she was lowly and weak and should concentrate on humbling herself before others.” Zhao proclaims a woman must possess humility, industriousness and to continue sacrifice. She defines humility as acting respectful to others. She defines industriousness as complating everything that needs to be done as perfect as possible. She explains continuing sacrifice as serving your husband family, keeping clean, and never laughing. Today, the welcoming of a baby does not include being placed below a bed to show how weak you are. Also, the definition of the words/phrases Zhao defines could be defined less discriminating against women in present times.…

Winston Churchill once said of Clement Attlee that he was ‘a modest little man with much to be modest about.’ Contrary to this quote by one of his critics, the letter in source G displays Attlee in less than a modest way. Written by Attlee himself, it should give a true representation of his character as it was not intended to be published. Therefore he had no need to pretend to be something he was not. Within the letter he patronisingly points out where Churchill is not doing his job properly with many a snide remark. Clement Attlee mentions the ‘length of time…entailed on busy ministers’, implying that he has more important jobs to do which would discredit the description of him having ‘much to be modest about’. However the letter does display signs that Attlee was ‘modest’. He wrote that he had the ‘honour to preside’ in the committees set up by Churchill. It can be taken from this that he is a humble and appreciative man. As well Attlee refers to ‘we’ instead of I, showing he is modest by not taking the credit for himself.…

Humility takes an honest recognition of your worth as God sees you and recognizing your faults and knowing God loves and values us is so important to our well being. Doesn't this promote a healthy view of us? Pride is wrong because it elevates you above others, and often above God. Humility doesn’t always come naturally for some people. There are people who are stubborn nature and were brought up very confident and elevating themselves due to experiences and upbringing. I believe the reason why they fell like this is because they are suffering inside with jealousy, insecurity and are a result of their "ego" or self or pride, sense of entitlement, or the desire to be the "best" at whatever. People need to be humble sometimes so they can be in place where their life is better. I think that humility comes first than honor. What matters if you have honor if you don’t have humility you can’t go through life and stepping all over people because when you get older and have kids they would do that to you. We live in a society that is like a chain reaction if you do something other people follow but we need to break that mold and make this a better place to live. There are people walking who don’t care if they hurt people because they were never thought the meaning of humility. I consider myself as a humble person, I am the kind of person that if hit in one cheek would put the other cheek, like they say is better that there is one crazy person that two. I don’t like people who are like that. For example, I have an aunt that is good economically stable and when one of her sisters husband died she provided some stuff for the funeral and gave my aunt some money, she had her pride very high and was telling everyone what she had done. When I heard I had this feeling inside of me that I can’t explain, I hated the fact that she was telling everyone, you don’t have to tell anyone what you did; you should keep it to yourself and be humble. Sometimes I think she…

I'm a modest man. I've done nothing special in my life. I have never invented anything, or saved anyone. For most of my life, I have lived in a conservative way, never reaching out or rocking the boat, and at the ripe old age of 23, I'd decided that I'd had enough of that kind of existence. Now there are millionaires who envy my way of life. There are thousands of men who would love to be me, and just as many women who would love to be near me. No, I'm not a celebrity, nor am I outrageously wealthy. I'm just a man who reached out and plucked his dream from the ether, making it reality.…

The final two Benedictine Hallmarks are humility and hospitality. Humility is to have a modest view of yourself, I look at it more as having a realistic view. If you have humility, you don’t necessarily have a low opinion of yourself, but you don’t have a low opinion of others either. We are all human and make mistakes, having humility to me means that you accept this fact. Hospitality means that you welcome others.…
