Not every district believes that the Games are sacrificial.
A few of the richer districts train tributes from a young age and during the last eligible year these tributes would volunteer for the Games and attempt to bring honour to their district. The capitol wants the districts to all think this way so that the chance of rebellions would be lessened. It is not a surprise to see this even in a fictional book, as often in history the central oppressive government would brainwash the people under its rulings and prevent them from having enough food and resources and satisfied quality living styles so that the occurrence of rebellious acts will diminish
greatly. The author Suzanne Collins depicts the characters mostly indirectly, as dialogues are prevalent in this story. The first person point of view from the main character Katniss is based almost exhaustively on personal thoughts during the actual Games. The few direct characterizations are seen during the Games as Katniss describes them. In the book, Collins described how the other tribute from district 12, Peeta, has a romantic relationship with Katniss during the Games. The capitol made this situation an exception and changed the rule during the Games to allow two victors to be crowned. This is important because the intentions of the capitol are to create a dominant image for the districts to see and hold the Hunger Games annually to show that the districts are helpless with their children sacrificing. The presence of the emotion love, however, changes this atmosphere and the capitol decides that the districts will have less disapproval of the Games if young love forms and perseveres through the Games. An equivalent example in the real world would be how hatred and loathe lessens when love is associated with that particular subject or person. Often a politician will inject information about his/her own family or children during a campaign for election so that more people will feel more positively toward him/her. The ending of this book foreshadows the numerous adventures that lay ahead of Katniss Everdeen in what is to be seen in the second and third book. Because both Peeta and Katniss survived and the way Katniss broke the rules of the Hunger Games and which led to the Capitol being ridiculed, the two victors are in trouble Collins will continue this story in the second and third book. Also, because Peeta found out that the love his true love gave was actually a mere act, there will be more events on the relationship between Peeta and Katniss and even Gale, the would-be boyfriend of Katniss.
