People these days tend to have things given to them and I think that is what the artist is trying to speak to us about. They want us to step up and challenge ourselves because who knows, taking the harder way may award us with greater opportunities in life further down the road. The overall effectiveness was excellent because it speaks to the reader. They may not be going through anything rough right now but will definitely remember this image if they ever encounter a rough situation. The young boy all alone wanting to tear down the brick wall makes this effective because it makes the reader wonder why is no one helping him when clearly the path is much easier compared to the path with the obstacle. It may help someone who is in this situation, someone that wants to take the hard way but knows that it will take effort even when everyone else is going the easy way.
