The Impact of Strategic Leadership and Management on Strategic Decision Making
Introduction. In discussing what, if any, impact strategic leadership and management has on the the strategic decision making process it is key to first understand the bounds within which each element naturally sits. I have compartmentalized these elements as:

The link between leadership and management in this context is important and I intend to focus on this aspect above all others. I will attempt to prove that these elements are so intrinsically linked that to be without one simply prevents the others existing.
Strategy. For any business, I use the term business to define all manner of organisations from commercial to governmental, to be successful and most importantly to remain relevant in a rapidly developing society it must have a strategy. Arguably, the understanding of strategy amongst businesses varies, but nonetheless each business must have one. It could be simple enough, but more often than not encompasses a wide number of issues. At its heart the business strategy must be founded on a principle. An important principle for that business, something that might rally them in times of crises. Steve Jobs, former CEO of Apple Computers understood this.
“One of the biggest reasons entrepreneurs (and businesses) fail ... is because they don’t maintain at the core of their efforts this principle illustrated by Jobs (Steve). It’s all about the idea - the core, compelling, central focus of the product or service. Details don’t matter at first.” (Essany, 2012, pos.159) (My italics).
The strategy must be focussed on a principle. Once the strategy is developed, it will naturally form a framework from within which the business operates and grows. To meet the challenge of continued relevance organizational structure is developed to match
