The story Hoot, by Carl Hiaasen, portrays the impacts of friendship through the bonds Roy Eberhardt develops. Roy Eberhardt becomes close with Beatrice Leep and the ever mysterious Mullet Fingers. It is clear to the reader that they impacted Roy positively. Mullet Fingers and Beatrice gave him something to direct his wit and intelligence towards. They also forced him to become more mature, by indirectly making him the leader of their group.
