So I forgave Google and started my search again, this time with a clear goal in mind. That's when I came across a frightening fact, Connecticut has one of the largest achievement gaps in the country. The achievement gap compares middle and high class students test scores, dropout rates, graduation percentages, etc. to minorities and low income students statistics, and calculates the difference between the two. In Connecticut, minorities were almost three grades below the higher income students. However, this isn't the worst of it, according to data from the NAEP, (which is an exam given to students in grades, 4, 8 and 12 to assess math, reading, science, social studies, and the arts) Connecticut scored dead last in 14 out of 22 measures. It isn't just the teachers or the principals or the parents. It's our fault, as students to not strive for our education. We can affect the way the achievement gap plays into our life, we can use it in our favor, to prove that we are just as capable as anyone
