The Importance Of Moving To The United States

My mother and I moved to the United States for an improved lifestyle and education for my future. The main reason why we left my country Haiti was to pursue a better education in the United States. Therefore, moving to the United States was extremely challenging to me because I had to adapt to a new culture. Everything was unfamiliar; from weather, background and language to food, fashion, values, and customs. I spent years trying to adapt to the American culture but the adjustment was a challenging process. From middle school, I used to have difficulties with concentrating in my schoolwork because I struggled with the new language. I used to feel as if I did not belong in the U.S so I had trouble eating and sleeping. When I started improving,
I got bullied for my Haitian accent therefore, I felt uncomfortable speaking in front of others. I overcame these challenges during my high school and college years. I started seeking support from other Haitians students who were going through similar transitions. Thankfully, being in Miami Dade College has helped overcome my challenges because I became more comfortable with others. To conclude, I started joining clubs, speaking up and socializing more. Therefore, I began to thrive academically and personally.
