Token system – each week teachers will pick one of the rights to focus on (UN convention on the rights of children). Children are to be given a token for any good behaviour which links to the right throughout the week which would then be collected in a class pot. During Friday assembly, a name will be drawn from each pot and this child will be the star of the week. As a reward, these children will sit on a special star of the week chair.…
The United Nations (UN) convention on the rights of children in 1989 is a hugely essential piece of legislation which has influenced all child protection/safeguarding legislations. This is a treaty of nations which aims for all children to be treated equally, fairly and with dignity throughout their childhood and lifetime. All kinds of children’s rights were discussed and agreed upon; the right to life, liberty, freedom, justice, health treatment, education, equality and much more. Article 19 is most relevant to safeguarding children, “Government must take all appropriate measures to protect a child from all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including…
After reading both the Keegstra and the Children’s Aid Society case studies one got a more bold understanding of how the Charter affects the Canadian society. The Charter impacted the Canadian society by helping protect and shape the people’s rights in the Canadian society. Like in the Keegstra and the Children’s Aid Society cases the charter showed that everyone has equal rights, however the Supreme Court can stop you if you pass a certain limit. In the Keegstra case the Supreme Court defined to the public what the limit towards the freedom of expression is. Like in the children aid society case the Supreme Court showed the people their limit of the freedom of religion. The charter impacts the Canadian society by defining to the public their…

The aim of the Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF) is that all children are safe from the trauma of abuse, violence and neglect. I believe that there is no stigmatization or off-targeted benefits at the Child Abuse Prevention Association. CAPA seems like they have everything in order and they will help anyone who needs it. They work hard to make sure people have an understanding and know exactly what child abuse and neglect mean. They help teach everyone the difference and all of the signs of abuse and neglect as well. They have volunteers who also aid children to have a less stressful life. The volunteers also help children feel safe in their own home. CAPA makes no judgment to who they help.…
“The UK Government has defined the term ‘safeguarding children’ as: ‘The process of protecting children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment of their health and development, and ensuring they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care that enables children to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_safeguarding…

Many professionals tried their best to help vulnerable children, and billions of dollars are devoted to child welfare. Not every case were success or fail in protecting children. As Myers (2009) stated, “the only time child protection makes the front page or the evening news is when something goes terribly wrong” (p. 462). For example, service provider fails to remove an endangered child or remove child who should not. Of course, public know about service providers failure to protect some children, and sometime under values the services of the…
A child has the right to be protected against significant harm (children’s act 1989, every child matters 2004, United Nations Convention on the rights of the child etc.).…
Child Protective Services does try to contribute to a better quality of life for children, though growing statistics may say otherwise. This is not due to CPS’s own fault though, it is because people have to inform CPS about suspected abuse since they follow a residual perspective. Sometimes it happens and other times, it doesn’t. According to americanhuman.org, “According to the federally funded Third National Incidence Study of Child Abuse and Neglect (1996), almost three times as many children are maltreated as are reported to CPS agencies.” CPS can’t stop abuse, if it is ignorant to the fact that abuse is happening. With the residual perspective, the social worker, would have to react to the situation, after the fact, instead of already…
Safeguarding children is a lot broader that child protection as it also includes the prevention of child abuse or neglect. After the death of Victoria Climbie in February 2000 Every Child Matters was created to prevent any sort of child abuse. It involves the whole community in keeping children safe and promoting their welfare.…
