rights. We fought this war to gain our independence from the British king's unreasonable taxes. On July 4th, 1776 we adopted the Declaration of Independence; however, some would argue that taxes are still not reasonable today. Taxes are being raised on a regular basis to very high amounts, and we need to fight for our rights of reasonable taxes like our ancestors did. Next, we fought the Civil War to end slavery.
We fought this war, yet some people are still treated as slaves in parts of this country. There are nearly 60,000 slaves in America today who are forced laborers, prostitutes, and child brides. Even though slavery is illegal almost everywhere, it is not abolished. Slavery is happening all around us, we just cannot see it, and we must put a stop to it. Lastly, I'm going to talk about women's rights. The Women's Rights Movement began in 1848. The 19th amendment was ratified to give women the right to vote, but we still struggle with other rights that men have and women still do not. My example of this is equal pay; men can get paid more than women do by doing the exact same job. Some people look at women as not as important as men, but if a woman could do the same job as a man she should get equal pay. In this essay I am arguing with the opposing thought that our freedom is guaranteed. I'm arguing with this, because of the reasons I have stated above. We are not guaranteed our freedom, because we still are fighting over rights of equality and women's rights. We must fight repeatedly for these rights or they could get taken right from under us just like that. This is why I think we have to fight for our rights
repeatedly. In this essay I argued that our rights and freedoms have to be fought for repeatedly. I have presented my three reasons of why I chose this side. Although our rights are in the U.S. Constitution many people still do not follow it. We definitely have to still fight for our rights and freedoms repeatedly to ensure that we have them. Do you still believe the same, or have you changed your ideas?
