Logging in Procedure 1. Type in the necessary information into the Login window. Note the username is your student number. 2. Your password will initially be your date of birth in the format DDMMYY (your password will appear on the screen as asterisks to prevent anyone else reading it). 3. Click OK. If this information has been entered correctly the login window should disappear and you should now have full use of the computer. Identifying the Drives 1. Open My Computer by double-clicking the My Computer Desktop icon. The icons in the window represent the various disks and network drives that are available. Each drive is allocated a letter to identify it. H is your personal area of storage space (identified by your student number).
There are only two places where you can save your work: on removable storage like a flash memory device. on your own private area of the server, the H: drive.
It is very important that you do NOT save any work on the C: drive as this work will be lost when you logoff. This includes My Documents, which is often the default folder in MS Office. Learning website also known as Moodle (learning.ukzn.ac.za) This is a most important resource as notices and course materials are available here. 1. Double-click the Internet Explorer icon on the Desktop and enter learning.ukzn.ac.za in the address box. 2. Login following the instructions given on screen. 3. Choose the module ISTN101 and the ISTN101 Moodle site will be displayed and use the navigation panel on the left-hand side to find information on ISTN101. 4. Close the Internet Explorer window.
