The theme of The Infinite Sea is represented when one of the teenagers travels into the forest alone. One of the members has to leave the squad to look for a new hiding place in the forest. “I am not alone. I can’t see him or hear him, but I feel him. Every inch of my body tingled with sensation of being watched” (Yancey, 14). This would take a significant amount of courage and bravery to step alone into the forest. The theme of The Infinite Sea is also represented when Ringer and Razor are flying in a helicopter. The engines of the helicopter were turned off because they were almost out of fuel, and Razor jumped out of the helicopter. “The chopper begins to spin as it drops, and I loosen my grip on the door. I’m tossed around like a die in a Yahtzee cup, grasping at empty space, searching for a handhold.” (Yancey, 269). This means that Ringer has courage because she is willing to stay in an aircraft that is at a dead drop and then jump out right before it hits the ground. The theme of The Infinite Sea is also represented when the group is in the hotel where they are hiding. As Cassie said, “I held the metal handle for a good thirty seconds, ear pressed against the wood, but all I heard was the thumping of my heart. Slowly, I pushed down the handle, pulled the door open to create a crack just wide enough to peek through” (Yancey, 64). Whatever is on the other side of the door, Cassie is ready to take it on. This shows her bravery. The theme of The Infinite Sea is demonstrated throughout the setting, and also is demonstrated by the plot
