The Influence Of Barack Obama's Campaign Promises

During presidential campaigns, people are constantly bombarded with promise after promise from hopeful nominees. They promise to bring the change that the american people desire. Nobody in recent American politics has embodied the spirit of hope and change more than Barack Obama in his 2008 election. Among his many promises were health care reform, a responsible end to the Iraq war, and effective action on climate change. While many people in his own base have become disenfranchised by his supposed inaction on his campaign promises, he actually has kept nearly 45% of all his campaign promises and has tried to pursue all three of these specific campaign promises (Politifact 2016). While each promise has met its own, unique fate, most of his
perceived inaction has been caused by partisan obstruction in Congress and the Courts. While the Affordable Care Act was passed in Congress, the end product has resulted in Obama breaking many of his promises in relation to health care reform. Second, Climate change action has faced an immense amount of opposition in Congress and the courts. Finally, while Obama did indeed end the war in Iraq, there are various claims as to how responsible the withdrawal of troops was.
