Healthcare is remotely tricky subject to discuss because it is very controversial.
Presidential campaigns have promised that there will be changes, but they are never met. There is an excessive amount of money and politics involved. Big companies pay tons of money to lobbyists to keep the state of affairs, but no changes are made as of now. Healthcare reform was one promise made by President Obama that will be put into effect soon. According to Quadagno, He signed the "Affordable Care Act" into law. (p.p. 449-453). Obamacare is a health care plan that many Americans can afford, and it can reduce the growth in healthcare spending. It is insurance aimed to help lower costs for co-pay and easier to afford. …show more content…
President Obama passed this in order for everyone to attain health insurance. Many Americans do not have health insurance so President Obama decided to pass the Obamacare to make insurance more affordable. According to Hoff, Most Americans have to obtain health coverage by January 1st 2014, get an exemption or a pay a monthly fee. (p. p.5-20). They will be without insurance. The fee is paid on ones’ federal income taxes. One of the most debatable topics seems always to come up when discussing about healthcare is abortion, termination of pregnancy. Abortion has been spoken through many healthcare issues. The purpose of this paper is to examine why abortion should be included in Obamacare because there is an instance which expected mothers have personal circumstances that causes them to obtain an abortion. These reasons indicate that would be given the right to have Obamacare.
Activists have taken two positions on the issue.
Pro-Choice means they have the choice to either have the baby or abort the baby. Pro-Life means opposing abortion. Majority of the people agree with Pro-Life so there will be many people living in the United States against paying for expected mothers to get an abortion. Abortion is one the issues not covered under the health insurance in Obamacare. There are expectations that can make women need to abort her child for an example one would be rape. Another reason is because they have an illness such diabetes. Another one can be women cannot afford to have a child because of the women’s age. These reasons indicate that it would be given a right to be in …show more content…
Obamacare.
People do not want abortion in Obamacare because most people are Pro-Life, they want the child to be born. Also people are not willing to pay taxes for the women to get an abortion. Abortion is sometimes viewed as a bad thing so people do not want a life to be thrown away because women do not want to have the child. According to the article by Wright, “How Will Obama Handle His Abortion Dilemma?,” President Obama has a problem he had to face.
As a presidential candidate, he told a Planned Parenthood crowd that he wanted his first act as President to sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). “This bill would eliminate every pro-life protection-state and federal—from parental notification to bans on federal funding of abortions, pro-life laws that clearly play a part in the abortion deadline.”(p.p. 9-11). President Obama signed this bill. He should do what he set out to do when he signed the bill. He should take a stance on what he believes
in.
From the article, the author Jofee says “Thousands of American women who sought abortions used to die before Roe, and now such women don’t. Though we will never know exact figures, estimates of the number of women who died annually from illegal abortion in the years before Roe range anywhere from one thousand to ten thousand.
Many more women were injured, often losing their reproductive capacity.” (p.p. 54-59).
There was many instances which it was illegal to get an abortion. After the case Roe v. Wade, women had legal rights to abort their child if it were necessary. One thousand to 10,000 is a huge amount of women dying because they had an illegal abortion. Rape can be an example where the child needs to be aborted. It is an extreme case, for example if a woman is raped by her father, grandfather or someone in his or her family. It would not be right to bring the child into this world. It incestuous natures of the incident for a male figure such a father to rape her child. Also there can be cases which a teenager who is 13 years of age and gets raped by an old man. It is not right; it causes a traumatic experiences and development issues which causes the body not to fully develop. Another reason is because a woman has an illness that can harm the expectant mothers’ body such as diabetes, which can cause them to be in danger when they have the baby. Their blood sugars can go higher and causes the expected mother not to survive the birth. Pro-Life Activists need to take this into account. Another reason woman cannot afford to have a child. For an example, a women gets pregnant and needs cannot afford to go to the doctor’s and get checkups. Women may not have medical insurance so the women will not able to pay for the doctor’s visits. Women have to go to the doctor’s often so women would need money to go for the checkups In conclusion, abortion should be allowed in the health insurance. The reason being is that women have a right to make a decision on if they want to have the child even if it means that she might have to abort it. Abortion is a very controversial issue, but ultimately it should be the women’s choice to either abort the child or not to abort it. Health insurance in Obamacare should cover it because if a women need to abort their child because of rape, an illness, and financial reasons. So the country supports abortion. . These issues should cover abortion because another Roe v. Wade cases can come about and thousands of women can die again if abortion is not covered. Obama supports it; it is his duty to cover abortion in Obamacare. People need abortion, so they should have the right to get abortion covered under the insurance in Obamacare.
