The Influence Of Hate Crimes

As a young adult, I believe I am more likely to be persuade by a community leader than a school administrator or police chief because a community leader is not necessary an authority figure. If I was a hate crime offender I feel like I am more likely to trust someone who is not in my view an authority figure such as a peer or a community leader. If I was a community leader my plan to decrease hate crimes will be community meetings regarding the issue, I would try to encourage parents and their children to attend the meetings since offenders tend to be young males. It is important to talk to these families and help them understand the impact that hate crimes causes on the victims and other people that share something in common with the victims
such as race, sexual orientation, disabilities, etc. Talk to these families about the legal consequences that hate crimes can have. I will tell people why we should not judge others by their race, sexual orientation, disabilities, etc. but rather by their actions. I would encourage parents to talk to their children and teach them how to value life and how much better will the world be if we can all at least try to get along. Having community events such as pool parties and sports events are also a great way to reduce hate crimes. By bringing people together and sharing together we can start to see the different side of the coin. We can start to see that after all we are all humans, that we are all the same but with just a few differences that do not make us better or worse than others. Education is my favorite weapon against crime, we have to educate people about the damages that hate crimes can have on both the victim and offender.
