Gatsby used a lot of money to buy her heart, but none if it was working. He even threw grand parties, in which everyone in town came to, hoping one day that Daisy would come so he could talk to her. His personal items such as his pens and brushes were covered with gold initials of Jay Gatsby, he believed in order to live a happy life you must have money and power and high social status. Gatsby tries to get the approval from other people but fails to see that this path will lead him toward a devastating end. People wanted to live life to the greatest and it would motivate them to gain wealth and be successful but with the cost of tragedies and failures. He shows this in Gatsby because Gatsby was so close to achieving his dream but in the end not achieving it. If your not carefull in achieving your dream you can get lost in it. Materialism creates a corrupted American Dream. What was once a legit American Dream turned into a race to becoming wealthy and any possible away. Fitzgerald looks at the dream in a negative way while others present materialism as positive and a need in to achieve the American
