According to Professor Heather Paxson (2006) of MIT, gender refers to the characteristics that differentiate men and women’s behaviors and it includes value judgments connected to masculinity and femininity and everything in between. However, as one learns more and more about gender, they question the necessity of gender and even its existence. In the piece X: A Fabulous Child’s Story by Lois Gould (1978 or 2006) gender is portrayed as unimportant in order to have a good life; gender doesn’t matter. It shows that people have a need to categorize everything into groups because if they don’t, the unknown lingers in their minds and they fear it. People fear the unknown and the different, therefore they fear any gender other than the binary. But…

When assessing youth and adolescence, innocence plays a major part in one’s mind. Innocence. A word in which one could argue indefinitely along with the word “war”. Becoming more mature can only happen with increasing knowledge and understanding. Since Antonio’s father is not interested in religion, he claims that understanding only creates growing up and living life. However, Antonio’s mother is extremely religious. Hence, she states that growing up comes with a loss of innocence. It is reasonable that the priest also emphasizes this to Antonio, because this is clearly tied to the biblical story of Adam and Eve. As Adam and Eve grow older, they learn from the snake that they can gain a lot of wisdom by eating a fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Consequently, they are exiled from the Garden of Eden due to their mischief. This demonstrates how learning about something can cause loss of…

Anecdotes fill the pages of the Gesta at pains to illustrate how Innocent was a quick-witted and adept negotiator and leader. Often these stories, such as dealings with Conrad of Hildesheim are utilised to increase the liveliness of his reporting. The case of Conrad in particular shows how Innocent was supposedly wielded excommunication as the weapon of his papacy. It appears that whenever in doubt, Innocent had a method of dealing with the unruly or the insubordinate; namely, that he denied them their title, lands and religious exemptions and when they come to him pleading for salvation and reinstatement he would declare, very publicly, that we would not go back on the edicts of his church and remove the excommunication. Indeed, it appears…
