Turner also points out how the presences of US troops have relieved Afghans from Taliban domination and the regimes extremely violent principles. Afghans now feel great amount of liberty and democracy, especially since they are neighbor to Soviet satellites like Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. (Turner para 6). Poppy fields are other of the country’s major problems. Attraction to farming poppies caused people to avoid other forms of work that will improve the country economy, and affected the world as well. Therefor US have also aided the Afghan president, Hamid Karzai’s efforts to discourage opium production.
However, Faruq Achiqzad argues that there have been more problems caused by the presence of the US troops, than there has been solved. He points out that the narco-trafficking situation has not changed efficiently, for now its profits are the investments for telecom and construction industries. Therefor there will be more struggle to eliminate opium production then before. Achikzad also indicates that Afghanistan is growing dependent to the US government by the increase in the currency of the dollar while use of the Afghani rupee has decreased.
I consider US troops staying on conditions. Based on the considerable sum of American tax money spent on making an impact on less fortunate countries, there should be more progress than there has been made in these twelve years. For
