She was allowed a head start, then stumble along until the end of the race, but then she suddenly started bolting ahead like crazy, wheezing and kicking up dust until she would win, but not by much. He also had a small Bull Dog named Andrew Jackson, that didn’t look like it could do anything, but as soon as somebody bet on him, he’d give the dog a signal and would manage to beat any better-looking dog in a fight. He had a trick of catching the other dog’s back leg in his mouth with a tight grip until the fight was over, and he would win. This worked until Andrew Jackson ended up in a fight with a dog that didn’t have any back legs. The dog not knowing what to do, gave Mr. Smiley a look like his heart was broken, crawled away and died.
If you couldn't already tell most of the tells about Mr.Jim Smiley are greatly exaggerated, which also add a sense of humor to the story. It goes to show and reflect what modern families and family reunions are like now. It shows how there's always that one relative who will be the one to sit back and tell all the ridiculous tells of the family. With each story and relative, the stories get more and more exaggerated and I believe Mr. Twain demonstrated this through Mr. Simon telling the stories of Mr. Jim
