This is significant because Hassan is accepting that his mother came back to him. She deeply regrets leaving him behind instead of taking care of him like any mother would with her child. Sanaubar travelled miles just to get a glimpse at her son, and is an example of a mother’s love.
This is a moment of bonding between Hassan and Sohrab. The slingshot was Hassan’s weapon, and he is now passing down that weapon and skill to his son.
Chapter Seventeen
This photo is a representation of just how almost ethereal Hassan’s nature is. In the photo his face is tilted towards the sun, and his stance is relaxed. His smile is genuine and carefree. Hassan is an embodiment of good intentions and an individual who has a heart of gold.

Amir is in distress and trying to wrap his mind around the bomb that Rahim Khan just dropped on him. Amir has to now reevaluate everything from a new perspective. Amir’s perspective on his father is the one with the most dramatic twist, because Baba had always told Amir that the worst kind of sin was theft; when Baba had already committed theft by having an affair with Sanaubar and having Ali and Hassan live with him.
Chapter Nineteen
This sequence is a parallel to when Amir planted some money and a watch he received as a birthday gift, under Hassan’s mattress twenty six years ago as a way of having him get kicked out of his home. But now, Amir is shoving money under the mattress to aid the family.
Chapter Twenty
This is Amir’s first time seeing the Taliban in person. This is a kind of culture shock to him because back in California, everything is safe and peaceful. There aren’t any terrorist groups roaming the streets of Fremont.
The conversation between Dr.Rasul (now a beggar) and Amir’s mother Sofia, is one that gives us a better look into her character and personality, as we were never really given much to go off of and then form an opinion about
