Michelangelo included many different people while painting this story. The Last Judgement includes Jesus’ 12 Apostles, Mary, Christ, Michelangelo himself, Minos (the Judge at the gates to the Underworld), and many more. If you look at the fresco, you see that there are many things that are going on. There are over 50 people included and multiple places. In the bottom right corner, that’s hell, and if you look at the bottom left, those are the people who are waiting to be judged. Christ is the main focal point to this entire fresco. He valued himself less than Christ. He continued to be a follower of Jesus after he was crucified. So, surrounding Christ was the Virgin, the crowds of saints, martyrs, and others who had already risen to paradise. Some of the people have attributes that make them easy to identify, but most have yet to be known. Some include: St Lawrence with his grate and St Bartholomew with his knife and flayed skin, St Peter holding the keys of the Kingdom, St Andrew with his cross with many more surrounding. There are also two figures from the Crucifixion - the Good Thief, Dismas, and Simon of Cyrene, who carried Christ's cross for him (“Last Judgment Fresco (1536-41)”).This reminds us of the significance of Christ's sacrificial death and resurrection, which is essentially what the whole painting is
