The legalization of marijuana has it

The legalization of marijuana has it’s pros and cons, likewise with everything we face in life. What’s your opinion of it? Since 1990, approximately 17 million Americans have been arrested on marijuana charges. Like any substance, marijuana can be abused. The most common problem is frequent overuse, which results in lethargic behavior, but no health problems. Marijuana does not cause serious health problems like tobacco or alcohol. There has never been a single human death attributed to marijuana. I’m not saying “let’s smoke, it’s good for you”, but what I will say is, much of what we do on a daily basis isn’t good for us. Like most Americans, people who smoke marijuana also pay taxes; aren’t they entitled to their own private recreational affairs? Severe physiological addiction has been demonstrated for tobacco, (which happens to be stronger than cocaine) but no strong physiological addiction has been shown for marijuana. But yet we legally sell tobacco in our stores? There are several cons within this matter as well. The use of marijuana could potentially lead to a need for a “stronger” drug; the gateway theory. The legalization of marijuana could also send out a message to our youth stating that drug use is acceptable. Society may not do much better at enforcing this restriction on sale and marketing for marijuana to kids than we have with alcohol and tobacco. There’s no way around it, drugs are addictive. They rob the user of free will. Drug users are not capable of making informed and rational decisions, because drugs eliminate the user’s ability to think logically. The goal is to stop illegal activity by making an illegal activity legal, but the easy availability of drugs would create new consumers rather than rescuing current ones. We cannot ignore the negative effects that legalization would have on underage use and addiction, highway safety, treatment costs, mental health problems, emergency room admissions, workplace accidents and productivity, and
