The Main Causes Of World War II

World War II is the greatest international conflict to ever occur; not because it was good, but because of its scale. It consisted of most, if not all of the world's major powers of the time. Fighting took place from the beaches of Normandy in France to Midway Atoll in the pacific. There were many causes that led to this extensive war, one being the failure of the League of Nations to stop the aggression of the Third Reich, and another being the policy of appeasement, which failed to satisfy Hitler’s desire to conquer as much of the Eurasian continent as he could. The conflict began on the first of September in 1939 and ended 6 years later on September 2nd, 1945.

One issue that fueled its failure was that the United States congress voted that our nation would not take part in it, which is ironic because of who it was created by. We did not want to get involved with another extreme conflict so soon after World War I, or at all for that matter. Another issue was that, the League of Nations had no army to support it and its condemnations. An example of this is when Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1935. Haile Selassie, the emperor of Ethiopia, was quoted saying that “God and history will remember your judgement. … It is us today. It will be you tomorrow.” He is saying that the imperialistic views of the Axis powers would not stop following the conquering of Ethiopia. In time, they would continue into Eurasia.
