The man without a face
Task one:
1)
Justin McLeod is an isolated, intelligent, quiet person. He deliberately shuts himself off from others because the people in the town he lives in talk bad about him without even knowing what kind of person he really is. I think Justin shuts himself off from others because he is embarrassed of his scared face that he got from a car accident and he doesn’t want to get hurt by the comments people might say to him, so he stays in his home where he feels safe and feels that no words or anyone’s judgment couldn’t hurt him if he stayed shut off from the rest of the world. As we see in the movie, Justin McLeod is not very approachable to a little kid like Chuck Nordstadt and he seems to believe in the more serious things in life like discipline, but in reality he is taken by many subjective things such as how people view him physically and verbally, based on his tragic past. In the movie you can see a variety of scenes where Justin McLeod makes sure he doesn’t come in contact with any of the town’s people, an example of this is how he runs his errands at night just so he is sure he doesn’t come in contact with anyone.
2) He changes in the end of the movie. The change is caused by chuck and the friendship he had made with Justin when no one else wanted to. This shows that one small action can impact a persons life a lot, in this case chuck chose to friend Justin and this made him feel like he wasn’t alone anymore and he had someone to go to when he felt down and nothing anyone say can affect him cause now he has someone to stand up for him and comfort him. He has deliberately shut himself from society because he feels it would be-better for both him and other people. It saves him pressure from being glared at with horror and disgust and all sorts of questions running through each persons mind, thinking what kind of freak of nature he is.
