Background (what was happening in the world and the author’s life when the book was being written) -
This book was written in 2009, and in this year there was things such as Obama becoming president and Michael Jackson dying ext. Thanks to technology a lot of small aspects are remembered. So, to investigate it more accurately, I want to look at things done against children and circumstances where people were forced to work. If you look at it in this perspective, you can see that child labour was (and still is) an issue in the world. Also, James Dashner had his second son in 2007, meaning he might of thought about children more as he got his second baby.

Thomas arrives at a infrastructure called the glade where about 50~60 male teenagers who also don’t have their memories live. The glade is surrounded by huge walls, which protects the glade from an even bigger maze where dangerous creatures called grievers live. To find a way out of the maze, the teenagers made types of jobs (Ex.runners who search the map) and built facilities (Ex.Homestead, where the children sleep). Thomas finishes his first day and made a new friend called Chuck. As the next day comes, a strangeness occurs as the first girl comes on the lift Thomas came from (only men and people are supposed to come once a month). Furthermore the girl states “Everything is going to change” and is holding a paper that is written ,
She’s the last one.
Ever.
After this incident, Thomas and the rest of the glade starts their journey to escape from the maze and gain freedom.
Point of View type (who is telling the story) - The point of view type is third person and the narrator reports on Thomas (Protagonist) throughout the book (this shows that it is a limited third person narrator). You can see this as within the book it talks about how Thomas is feeling in every part of the book and also describes Thomas as “he” not “I” showing it is not a second person point of view story. Because of this point of view, it is easier to understand Thomas but also makes the other characters hard to
