Summaries

Beginning:
There is a kid named Thomas who wakes up in an elevator, with no memory of his other than the fact that his name is thomas. When the elevator opens he is pulled into a glade by a bunch of teenagers who shared a lot of similarities like having a strange vocabulary that Thomas was not familiar with and seemed to have the same fate as Thomas.
The glade was an area where it never rains and is surrounded by walls with doors that opens and closes every night and behind those doors is a giant Maze filled with man hunting creatures that are called grievers.
The glade seemed to be run by two boys, Alby and Newt, who maintain order by enforcing strict rules, and have everyone put into different tasks, like people that clean everything, people that slaughter

Thomas kept his plan to get stung by the grievers a secret for quite a long time, and once he purposely got stung by a griever everyone was mad at him but he had enough memories to lead everyone out of the maze. But with the information Thomas had gotten he knew the maze was never meant to be solved but there was a way out, they had to go into the griever hole punch in the code and then deal with the creators(the people that put them inside the maze). When Thomas woke up from the changing he immediately called for a group meeting, and tried to convince as many people to help him complete the maze. Many people agreed to go, but many also stayed, but once they completed the maze the found gally(a person from the glade) there who was being controlled by the creators, and was about to kill thomas, but that’s when Chuck jumped and put his life on the line and saved thomas. And then the rest of the people were escorted outside and transported to some other

What does it really mean to be insane? Most people put labels on others because they can’t really understand the way that “crazy” person’s mind works. Everyone is different in terms of how they think but society as a whole usually thinks similarly. However, there are those few individuals whose minds operate outside of the moral, ethical and logical thinking of society. Pan's Labyrinth Analysis

The dark fantasy film Pan’s Labyrinth is a fascinating example of creative story-telling. This film focuses on so many aspects between Ofelia’s imaginary world and the real world, including her stepfather fighting for the Francoist regime. This little girl is uprooted to a military outpost in Fascist-ruled Spain commanded by her new stepfather, the Captain. The reoccurring contrast between Ofelia’s world and her stepfathers world stood out to me, through elements of brutality, innocence, war, imagination, disobedience, and choice. The tests Ofelia must face are chilling and nightmarish, they mirror not just the cruelty of the battles between the army and the rebels, but equally the deep loss and insecurity which Ofelia faces. Del Toro brilliantly intertwines between the two stories, so that we easily follow the action in two worlds simultaneously.…

As we experience more of our surroundings, we begin to understand it more. At the end of the Scorch Trials, Thomas slowly begins to understand what Teresa has been through and therefore is more willing to consider the rebirth of their friendship. “I did what I had to do in the Maze, and being all buddy-buddy seemed like my best shot… All we had to do was to get you here to pass the Trials. And it’s either you or us.” This was what Teresa said to make Thomas feel betrayed and therefore saved him. It also shows the mysterious enigma of why Teresa was doing this to him. Thomas hurt a lot due to the fact that he thought that since he and Teresa had gone through so much together already, they could trust each other no matter what. “During times which are desperate and only the fittest can survive, Thomas tries to stop thinking about she is doing this to him, but actually how to survive. “Get away from me, Tom... all of you need to get... away... from me. Don't argue. Just leave. Run.” This shows that Teresa, despite her being in agony and distress, tires to warn Thomas that something is really wrong. Because Thomas has already put a lot of trust in her, he refuses to leave her to…

“The Republic”, Plato’s longest work, has many views about philosophy and characters within and there is one character that truly stands out and entices you to read on until the very end; that was Socrates. Socrates was a mentor and a friend of Plato’s and in Plato’s eyes, he was a great and wise Philosopher that was a martyr for philosophy. Within “The Republic”, Plato has written a symbolic account about one of Socrates’ teachings of education or the enlightenment of the mind and soul; “The Allegory of the Cave”. In this, Socrates describes how education is important so that the mind and soul are enlightened and not forever dwelling within the shadows.…

    Pan's Labyrinth Analysis

Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro delivers a unique, richly imagined epic with Pan’s Labyrinth released in 2006, a gothic fairy tale set against the postwar repression of Franco's Spain. Del Toro's sixth and most ambitious film, Pan’s Labyrinth harnesses the formal characteristics of classic folklore to a 20th Century period. Del Toro portrays a child as the key character, to communicate that children minds are not cemented. Children avoid reality through the subconscious imagination which is untainted by a grown-up person, so through a point of an innocent child more is captured. The film showcases what the imagination can do as a means of escape to comfort the physical trials one goes through in reality. The protagonist of the film, a twelve year old girl named Ofelia avoids the problems she faces by embarking on a dark and puzzling journey that requires her to fulfill three dangerous tasks in order to reveal the truth of her lineage as the long-lost princess of the underworld similar to that of a person trying to escape a labyrinth and the challenges they face and overcoming them. This was the case for Ofelia who had to go through many challenging tasks that tested her in order for her to realize her true nature: love, respect for life and honor. The film explores the imaginative journey through the eyes of a child by the use of visual effects and techniques used to capture scenes, along with foreshadowing and the creative use of symbolism in human or object form.…

    The Allegory of the Cave

    • 481 Words

In “The Allegory of the Cave”, I believe truth is being portrayed as something we as humans see, maybe only once, without it even being the whole truth. Even then we neglect to see “other truths.” According to Socrates, and I quote, “From the beginning people like this have never managed, whether on their own or with the help by others, to see anything besides the shadows that are [continually] projected on the wall opposite them by the glow of fire.” Socrates believes humans will automatically assume something to be truthful, and with no actual evidence that we won’t even bother to look at the sight of whatever it may actually be. At then end, if someone would try to tell us otherwise, we will neglect the actual truth and still believe we know what the truth really is. Even if the actual truth was shown to us, and we were seeing it with the naked eye, it will not be enough to convince us otherwise of our own perception. However, I believe Socrates is saying that as humans, we need to be forced to look at the “real truth” and that it will take time to assimilate to once we’re forcibly presented with it. However afterwards, we will see the light; we will see the real truths behind what we previously believed to be false. After the truth has been revealed to us, we will assimilate to it permanently. Socrates states, and I quote, “But I think that finally he would be in the condition to look at the sun itself, not just at its reflection whether in water or wherever else it might appear, but at the sun itself, as it is….” However, knowing too much of the truth can lead to conflicts, and that is probably why so many things are hidden from us. Maybe our problem is not that we don’t want to see the truth, but that we are scared of what the outcome may be if we do know the real truths.…

    Allegory of the Cave

The "Allegory of the Cave" by Plato represents an extended metaphor that is to contrast the way in which we perceive and believe in what is reality. The thesis behind his allegory is the basic tenets that all we perceive are imperfect "reflections" of the ultimate Forms, which subsequently represent truth and reality. The purpose of this allegory defines clearly the process of enlightenment. For a man to be enlightened, he must above all desire the freedom to explore and express himself. Plato's main concept of the cave is: people see reality as the visible world when reality really is more than the visible world.…
