The Monkey's Paw By W. Jacobs

The theme of “The Monkey’s Paw” by W. W. Jacobs is that messing with fate can cause unnecessary problems in the future. Fate isn’t something that is meant or made to be modified or redesigned by others. The Sergeant had the old fakir put a spell on the Monkey’s Paw. While the spell was being put on it, the old Fakirs’ message implied to the Sergeant that, “He wanted to show that fate ruled people’s lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow” (Jacobs 51).
