The Monkey's Paw Essay

Since the original publication of “The Monkey’s Paw” in 1902, this time-honored short story has served as an influential asset amongst parents, literature teachers, playwrights and movie directors from past to present day. As a result of W.W. Jacobs’s great use of literary devices this tale has many adaptations derived from the original , all of which still relating to the themes of the narrative. From stage plays, to on-screen productions this tale has been a thriving manuscript since its first debut. Today, the narrative is introduced in many school systems where teachers establish lessons that analyze Jacobs’s main ideas. Over the course of time “The Monkey’s Paw” remains notable and will continue to be shared and discussed for generations
According to Lauretta Thistle, the author of the 1956 article “One-Act Plays Staged At Fisher HS” complimented that the short story “ is a well-known little thriller.” In the reading Sergeant- Major defined the actual monkey paw as being,” just a bit of what you might call magic.” Including supernatural factors within the story has made the tale predominantly placed under the horror genre, many producers used this advantage to turn the writings into actual performances. Additionally, the 1974 movie “Deathdream” and the 1991 television show “Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Tale of the Twisted Claw” are described by Trent Moore to be current adaptations of the horrifying tale.
