The Most Dangerous Game: Alternate Ending My alternate ending starts the morning after the apprehensive night that Rainsford was in the jungle. In the story, that morning Rainsford hears the cry of some startled bird that focused him into that direction. He hears something coming the same way he had come. That which was approaching was a man. At this point in the story is where my version of the ending begins. At first Rainsford thought that it might have been General Zaroff coming for him but instead it was his friend, Whitney. “How in the world did you get here?” asked Rainsford. Whitney was shocked when he saw Rainsford squatting up in a tree. “Is that you, Rainsford?” Whitney

It crashed into a bunch of rocks! I don’t even know if anybody from our crew made it, they were all sleeping in the cabins except me. Luckily I wasn’t because I was able to hear the sea break against the rocks so I got on the deck before it crashed. I tried to let the captain know but it was just too late.” Whitney was explaining. Rainsford all of a sudden interrupted him and told him to slow down. He was trying to take it all in. Although he felt horrible for what happened, there is a much bigger problem that needs to be assisted right now. “We’re not the only hunters that are here right now. His name is General Zaroff and he lives here.” Rainsford said. He explains to Whitney how Zaroff is trying to kill him because he is tired of hunting animals so instead he hunts humans. “What in the world is wrong with this sick, crazy madman! What are we going to do now?” Whitney asks terrified. “We are going to do what we do best which is hunt.” They decided to set off into the night with only the knife Rainsford received from General Zaroff and a very little amount of food. Whitney was not able to get anything from the boat so that was all they had. …show more content…
The trees towered above them like giants which just made them feel even more alone. They kept hearing the howls of Zaroff’s dogs every now and then. Even though the sound came from far away, it still frightened Rainsford every time. Since Zaroff could follow the trail of a mouse, Rainsford and Whitney knew he was going to be upon them soon. They have to think of a way to confuse him. They continued walking through the night that their feet could barely hold them anymore. Whitney still barely had no clue of what kind of situation they were into while Rainsford was on the verge of panic only having a knife to protect him knowing Zaroff would have a gun. The next day when Rainsford awoke he had no idea where he was. He sat up and looked around to see his shirt stained with blood. He didn’t even know whose it was. He knew something was wrong and when he stood up to see Whitney’s dead body laying on the ground he figured out why. He thought back to when he first arrived on the island and saw the weeds stained crimson. “It all makes sense now.” He whispered to himself. He now knew what happened. Rainsford had switched up Zaroff’s game by adding another player and Zaroff was not too happy about it. He knew the only reason he was still alive was just for the sake of the game. Rainsford had a few hours to do

In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game, Richard Connell tells the tale of an exceptionally skilled hunter named Rainsford. Rainsford falls off his yacht and ends up on the shores of Ship Trap Island, home to the evil General Zaroff and finds himself in a game of man vs. man against a person who finds thrill in hunting and killing human beings. However, despite the fact that Rainsford is forced to face a surplus of life threatening obstacles he does not back down. Throughout this story Rainsford's skill, whit, determination, and persistence are put to the test over and over again in this game; the odds are not in his favor but he quickly grasps the reality that if he is to survive he must will himself to do so. Evidently, Rainsford's…

Rainsford is still totally thrilled by the hunt. He has had so much experience in hunting that his experiences have led him to write a book on hunting. Rainsford is willing to spend time, and apparently large sums of money, to pursue his game. Rainsford sees himself as the strong, and he sees the animal as weak, non-intelligent target of his hobby. Zaroff, though he considers himself strong, sees hunting not just as a hobby, but as a way of life. The General depends heavily…

“Everyday I hunt, and I never grow bored now, for I have a quarry of which I can match my wits, (8).” Zaroff speaks his mind about how bored he is with hunting animals. Rainsford hunts animals because he loves the sport of hunting. “It’s the best sport in the world,” as Rainsford calls it. Considering what both men say, it shows they have different morals about hunting and life. Those two points of view about hunting go against each other as Zaroff challenges Rainsford to hunt. Another main way General Zaroff and Rainsford aren’t alike is that General Zaroff believes that humans are on the Earth to provide himself entertainment and Rainsford believes they deserve respect. General Zaroff says, “ I hunt the scum of the Earth: sailors from tramp ships--lassars, blacks, Chinese, Whites, mongrels--...,(9).” To rephrase it, Zaroff obviously gives no consideration about human life as he shows in the story. Rainsford believes the opposite of that, he says, “But they are men, (9).” in response to what Zaroff says.…
