Marcus Aurelius later tells his son Commodus about the decision he has made about choosing Maximus to watch over rome instead of him. Commodus is upset with the decision his father made and thought he never valued him as his son. As a result of Maximus becoming the next roman general, Commodus kills his father as a result of his anger and jealousy towards his father’s decision. Maximus soon finds out about the death of the emperor and learns that commodus has killed his father.
