The Murder of Selena Quintanilla-Perez
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was a Mexican-American singer-songwriter, fashion designer, and entrepreneur, who loved life, and everything it brought to her. Selena was born on April 16, 1971, and she was the youngest of three children. She is simply known as Selena. No one knew, not even Selena herself, just how famous she would become; or the impact she would have on the world. Selena met her future husband Chris Perez, when he auditioned to be a part of her band Selena y Los Dinos. Unfortunately, Selena’s dreams were all shattered, when she was gunned down on March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi, Texas by her fan club president, Yolanda Salidvar, for accusing her of embezzling money from Selena’s fan club. It was not realized until after her death, just how loved and admired she was by all of her fans. She forever changed the way women are viewed in the Tejano music world. Selena wanted to be a fashion designer, but her father had other dreams for her, when he realized her ability to sing. Selena’s mother and father knew it was a long shot, as women usually don’t make it in the Tejano music world, since it is a male dominated world. Selena’s father formed a band, called Selena y Los Dinos, which included her brother Abraham III and her sister Suzette. Anywhere they could perform they did, they would perform at local weddings, street corners, quinceaneras, and fairs. As Selena became more popular and the demand for her grew, she was pulled out of school to travel and perform. She eventually earned her high school diploma through classes she did by mail.
As Selena’s popularity grew, so did the need to increase the members of the band. Chris Perez auditioned to join the band. He was a talented guitar player, and he was asked to join the band. Chris played many shows with Selena, and their attraction towards each other grew. Selena and Chris then started to secretly date, and when her father found out they dated, he disapproved. He then forbids them

    Selena Movie Analysis

In effect, by glossing over Selena’s transition into the Latin American the film Selena ignores her accomplishments in the Latin American market which was not easy to enter. Although the film touches on the obstacles Selena had to overcome to become successful in Latin America it still makes it seem as if Selena was an automatic sensation, particularly in Mexico, where it is known she had difficulty winning people over. This is evident through the one scene in the movie where Selena visits Mexico and whilst there speaks Spanglish to reporters without any repercussions as later on a newspaper calls her the “genuine artist of the people.” Yet, it is no secret that at the beginning of her career the language barrier between Selena and her Mexican audience posed an issue as she was derided for using an interpreter to communicate with the Spanish-language media (Paredez 204).…

Different areas that speak Spanish have different dialects. Some of these areas do consider people from other areas to be outsiders. An example would be people from Mexico are not necessarily accepting of people from Puerto Rico because they consider the Puerto Ricans to be outsiders even though they are both Spanish speaking countries. I think Selena was able to overcome this problem in Mexico because of her personality and she didn 't try to hide her American heritage either. Selena also had a very confident approach to everything that she did. I believe she was popular because people could relate to her and they viewed her as one of them. Selena also did not allow her popularity to change her, she was still the same person she always was.…
