The play was about a traveling con man, Harold Hill, who poses as a band organizer and promises to teach all the kids who buy uniforms and instruments how to play an instrument, but he plans to leave the naive people of Iowa without giving any music lessons. The one thing Harold did not have planed was falling in love with the town’s librarian and piano teacher, Marian Paroo, who sees right through him. Marian begins falling for Harold when he helps her little brother overcome a lisp and social anxieties. Harold then risks being caught to win her. …show more content…
The character of Harold Hill is performed by Dominic Lagman.
The Female lead. Marian Paroo was well performed by Felicia Ordanes. The Character of Winthrop Paroo, Marian’s younger brother was performed by John Stoll. John Stoll really encourage me to think about joining the school play next year, as he is in grade nine. It was so awesome to see a grade nine, who is also my friend, play such an important supporting role in this
performance.
The costume design well communicated the time in which the play was set. All the women were wearing old style dresses and the men were in suits. I though they all looked well thought out as well. The children who were part of the band, at the end of the performance were all in red marching band gear, with shiny buttons. The sets also did a good job of communicating the setting of the musical. The library, or the town streets/square, or the community building, and Marian’s house. John Stoll, who played the part of Winthrop Paroo in the musical The Music Man. He was very believable playing a socially awkward, and anxious child. He spoke with a lisp and used body language to convey shyness as well as keeping his limbs close to the rest of his body to show exaggerate how small he is. John also walked more like how a child would; skipping mid walk or looking clumsy. John did the part well, and fit the role perfectly.
One thing I think was well done in the play was casting. All the actors and actresses seemed to fit their role, and play them well. All the actors knew their lines well and seemed to connect with their character. They each made adjustments to how they walk or how they talk to fit their character’s personality
One criticism i would make is, that a certain points in the production, there were so many people on the stage it was hard to focus on what was happening, and the stage just looked too crowed. For example, the library scene where Harold meet Marian, for the first time. The choreography, song, and the actual dancing was great but there was so much going on, I did not know where to look. Was i supposed to be looking at Harold singing to Marian, or the many of couples dancing? Well watching it i was so afraid someone was going to bump into someone else or fall of the stage or trip on someone else, it was hectic.
I would definitely recommend this musical to others. The story was great, the acting was great, the crew was great, and the set was great. Overall the musical was well produced. Im sure anyone would enjoy seeing a fun, lovestory any night of the week. I really must applaud all the hard work that was put into this production by both the teachers and the students. I think everyone should have gone to see this musical.
